First Napoleonic board wargame?
[edit]Is it correct this is the first commercial board wargame on a Napoleonic theme? That would make it highly notable, and influential with later designers. AH was the first board wargame publisher, and this was one of their first games. I have not reviewed the sources. -- GreenC 17:31, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- I have not found a definitive source that states this is the first Napoleonic board wargame. The facts are that Charles S. Roberts is acknowledged as the first designer of board wargames in 1953, and Waterloo (1962) was the first Napoleonic board wargame published by AH. However, were there any other publishers who brought a Napoleonic board wargame to the market between 1953 and 1962? Until someone finds a source for or against, it's impossible to say with certainty. Guinness323 (talk) 23:14, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
- An advanced search of Board Game Geek filtering for Napoleonic games published between 1953 and 1962: search. Waterloo stands alone. This of course would be classic case Original Research, on the other hand, BGG will have just about everything mainstream and obscure. I think the chances of this being the first commercial board wargame on a Napoleonic theme are extremely high. After this, other games start appearing: 1963-1965. Prior to, nothing. -- GreenC 15:17, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
