Name Change
A change as major as the name of the club (and thus its article) deserves a discussion on this page and an explanation in the article. Was the change made to anticipate the possible inclusion of a second New Zealand club in the NRL?--Jeff79 18:27, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
- It was when the Auckland Warriors (owned by Tanui et al) sold the NRL franchise to Eric Watson - he did not buy the whole club/company just some assets (notably he did not buy the players). Mattlore 08:19, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
- Read your point wrong, disregard :) Mattlore 08:20, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
- A little bit of research seems to dispute the claim [1]. I think maybe we should move the page back? Mattlore 08:29, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
- The club is registered with the NRL as just "Warriors", as are the "Bulldogs". Timmah86 10:31, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
- NRL based proof or move it back. --IanRitchie 22:56, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
- Pick up a copy of Big League and tell me what's at the top of every game there. Same goes for the club news pages in it too. NRL website also only mentions "Warriors", never New Zealand anymore. Timmah86 23:49, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

That bit up there from Mattlore doesn't appear to be in the article. But that is just the kind of encyclopedic information I like to see appearing in club's articles. And that's the only reason I started this discussion. If the club's official name was changed it would have taken place on a particular date for a particular reason. Let's not argue about whether it has happened (fortunately for me I'm a Broncos supporter so am spared these kinds of club name debates - thus far anyway!). Let's find a verifiable source for the name change and put it in the article.--Jeff79 00:23, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
I emailed them, they said: "Our trading name is the Vodafone Warriors.
Cheers Patty
Patty Curtis Administration Vodafone Warriors"
- That link that was provided seems is convincing in that the club is still known as the "New Zealand Warriors" deep down (as the Sydney Roosters are still known as ESDRLFC). As for the proper name - maybe it is time to change the page name to "Warriors (rugby league team)". Does anybody know when this transition took place? mdmanser 09:13, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Nzwarriorslogo.jpg
Image:Nzwarriorslogo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:14, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
Flags
I really dislike the flag change and I think, especially for the Australian/Eureka flag, most people won't recognise it. Others thoughts? Mattlore 03:25, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
- I've changed back the flags for the time being. One other option could be to have the NSW & Qld flags instead of the Australian. But if all the other ESL & NRL pages use the NZ/Australian flags I don't see why we shouldn't keep using them as well. Mattlore (talk) 23:34, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
- Eureka flag should definitely be rejected altogether. Don't know how that even came up.--Jeff79 (talk) 22:27, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
2008 Squad
This part seems to need a tidy up, we still have 2007 Losses for example and the Contract Extensions were mostly done last year. Can someone who knows more clean it up so only extensions made in 2008 are listed? We should have probably wiped it in Feb/Mar and started fresh for the 08 season. Regards, Mattlore (talk) 22:22, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
- Okay, I'm going to give it a clean up because no responses here Mattlore (talk) 05:33, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
Can the main editors of this article please look at POV issues?
There are serious issues with the neutral point of view and no original research policies evident in this article. PageantUpdater talk • contribs 11:10, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
Beards
Having just watched the Warriors become the first 8th placed club to beat the minor premiers in NRL history, I came to this article looking for an explanation about the beards that every single player on the team has grown. Could someone write something about that?--Jeff79 (talk) 01:17, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not sure it is notable enough - furthermore they haven't publicly stated a reason for why they are growing them and so we would only really have rumours and suggestions to base it on. Mattlore (talk) 04:27, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
- I didn't mean in the introduction or player's section or anything like that, but surely under the 2008 section (or if there's a separate 2008 article?) where their finals games are being discussed it's worth a brief mention. I imagine it's some kind of pact, like no shaving until you lose a game or something like that. Just checked a few news websites and there's no mention anywhere though.--Jeff79 (talk) 04:33, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
- There have been articles on a few news sites but the club hasn't told anyone why exactly they are growing the beards so all the journalists can do is speculate. Mattlore (talk) 10:41, 20 September 2008 (UTC)
- In an interview with Steve Price, they said they're doing the beards as a tribute to Ruben Wiki and it being his last season 125.239.22.199 (talk) 11:51, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

- The truth doesn't matter, it's enough that there is a verifiable source to state the existence of the beards and if there is a reason given in the article, that's great too. Here's one news link if anyone is keen on entering the information. •Florrie•leave a note• 13:04, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

The beards will be gone and forgotten next year - I think they really have no place in an encyclopaedia. And I've seen a variety of reasons given. I suspect there's no particular reason except as a bit of team bonding. Like everyone getting a team tattoo. Dean B (talk) 08:25, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
Match scores are gone and forgotten the following season as well, but that's no reason to leave them out. I guess it depends on the level of richness of information you want for an encyclopedia. I came here looking for an answer and can only assume that others would to. Why not provide it if we can? --Jeff79 (talk) 13:18, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
Taunted?
there has been no references that he was taunting before he put the ball down for the winning try, the man himself said he did not see him and was trying to chew up the clock. someone change this please! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 222.155.236.139 (talk) 04:35, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
