This one will be interesting to review - I stopped by Lock 38 for the C&O on the way back from Pennsylvania a couple weeks ago. Hog Farm Talk 08:29, 23 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Looking forward to your review. I've always regretted that I did not spend more time at the locks (Pennyfield Lock, Swains Lock, Riley's Lock) when I lived near them. TwoScars (talk) 16:28, 23 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Good luck with this. I remember much enjoying reviewing Pennyfield Lock. HF, FACable? Gog the Mild (talk) 17:45, 23 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I think we may need to drop the " ' " in Violette's from the everywhere in the article. Although the C&O Canal Trust sometimes has the " ' ", the National Park System does not. It would be good to hear your opinion on this. TwoScars (talk) 16:25, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I'll take a look at this soon. Got busy with some stuff. Hog Farm Talk 16:52, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • "The canal has several types of locks," - should this be "had" instead, since this section is about the construction of the canal? Especially if not all of the locks are still extant, I would recommend a different wording
Changed "has" to "had" in two places. TwoScars (talk) 16:21, 27 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • In the background section, I think you could do a better job at clarifying that lock 23 was a lift lock
Added this sentence right before the discussion of guard locks: Violettes Lock, or Lock 23, is the 23rd lift lock when traveling up the canal toward Western Maryland. TwoScars (talk) 16:26, 27 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
wikilinked TwoScars (talk) 16:34, 27 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Dropped sentence. TwoScars (talk) 16:34, 27 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • "The small community of Darnestown, less than 4 miles (6.4 km) north of Lock 24" - link Darnestown
Made link. TwoScars (talk) 16:34, 27 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • "kept his headquarters at the Samuel Thomas Macgruder farm where the Potomac River could be observed from high ground" - indicate when (Banks was only in this area early in the war), and the source seems to spell Magruder without the c
Fixed spelling. TwoScars (talk) 16:34, 27 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Added the sentence: By late February 1862, Banks had left Darnestown and was operating in the Shenandoah Valley. Citations from Official Records.TwoScars (talk) 19:37, 27 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
More later TwoScars (talk) 16:34, 27 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • "On June 27, 1863, 5,000 cavalry troops under the command of Confederate General Jeb Stuart crossed the Potomac River near Lock 24" link J. E. B. Stuart. Also, "General" was a formal rank in the CS army, and Stuart's rank was actually two rungs lower at Major General (the reference to Lee as "General" later is fine, as that was his formal rank)
Linked Jeb Stuart, changed General to Major General and linked to General officers in the Confederate States Army. TwoScars (talk) 18:38, 27 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Looks fine other than these comments. Hog Farm Talk 05:54, 27 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Might be done. What do you think should be done about the " ' " in Violette's? TwoScars (talk) 19:37, 27 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Hog Farm: Anything else? TwoScars (talk) 13:11, 31 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I don't believe so. Passing. Gog the Mild - I think this would have a decent chance at FAC, although I do think that reviewers better than prose with me would probably suggest phrasing/wording improvements in a number of places. 14:15, 31 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
