Is there any other proof Victor said this? It takes more than an unknown french website to prove that ESPN is either lying or has bad sources 73.75.249.102 (talk) 12:50, 13 March 2023 (UTC)

He's 7'4, not 7'2

According to his recent height measurements, he is 7'4 with an 8'0 wingspan. Please change this. Source: https://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/268550/Victor-Wembanyama-Measures-7-Foot-4 73.75.249.102 (talk) 12:45, 13 March 2023 (UTC)

There's no consensus that RealGM is reliable (Wikipedia talk:WikiProject National Basketball Association/Archive 44 § Realgm.com). Why should we discount his current team's listing?—Bagumba (talk) 12:52, 13 March 2023 (UTC)
LNB still lists him at 219 cm, which is what we keep until he is officially measured at the NBA Draft Combine. --bender235 (talk) 16:45, 17 March 2023 (UTC)

Final comments
@Sportzeditz: Right, I haven't got much to say, really, because the article looks excellent! Overall, you did a great job in providing reliable sources, following WP:MOS and structuring the article properly, so I definitely enjoyed reading the whole page. The article is, of course, broad and stable, and despite all of the hype surrounding Wembanyama at the moment, you managed to keep the page as neutral as possible, so that's another positive. All of the images included look fine, too.
I did notice just a few minor issues with punctuation and links, but I've mostly fixed them by myself. What I've got left to say is that a few phrases might still need to be re-tooled, and especially one from the Nanterre 92 paragraph comes to mind:
"In October, Wembanyama featured in a viral video, where at age 16, he showcased his skills in a two-on-two pick-up game against Rudy Gobert, one of the top defensive players in the world, and Vincent Poirier."
Gobert's skills are already well-known and can be found on his own article, anyway. Plus, specifying Victor's age doesn't feel necessary here. So, I would change the sentence like this: "In October of the same year, Wembanyama featured in a viral video where he showcased his skills in a two-on-two pick-up game against Rudy Gobert and Vincent Poirier." Is that OK?
Finally, I would suggest you to add one more "third-party" reference for the player's signings with ASVEL and Metropolitans 92, respectively, just to be safer.
I hope my suggestions will be clear and useful enough. Thank you for this nomination! Oltrepier (talk) 16:28, 24 March 2023 (UTC)
@Oltrepier: I have edited the sentence above and added more references to each signing. Sportzeditz (talk) 16:58, 24 March 2023 (UTC)
@Sportzeditz: And that should be enough to promote the article. Thank you, and congratulations! Oltrepier (talk) 17:53, 24 March 2023 (UTC)

Suggestion: emphasizing Tony Parker's role in early career

I suggest emphasizing TP's role in Wembanyama's early career, as he has been a mentor for him. But also emphasize a sort of rupture between the two, with Wemby's move from ASVEL to Boulogne-Levallois, and Parker's comments about it maybe not being the best choice (would've progressed more playing regularly in the Euroleague)

NBA draft

Would it make sense to add a line or two explaining eligibility for the draft rules? (I guess there's an age floor?) Might be helpful to readers unfamiliar with the NBA or American basketball nuance. jengod (talk) 02:20, 18 April 2023 (UTC)

Youth career

I could be interesting to add int his youth career that: « in May 2013, he won the national inter-committee tournament with the Hauts-de-Seine selection alongside Bilal Coulibaly, future teammate at Metropolitans 92 and number 7 in the NB draft. » Multiple sources and videos available (mostly in French), for instance: https://www.bebasket.fr/wembanyama-coulibaly/ Sakhr ACV (talk) 18:16, 24 June 2023 (UTC)

If you are referring to the infobox, the field is displayed as "Listed height".—Bagumba (talk) 11:03, 29 January 2023 (UTC)

The NBA is officially listing him at 7 feet, 3.5 inches, based on a measurement by the Spurs without sneakers on. Now, it seems a little silly to measure without shoes considering they are never actually playing barefoot, but that is their standard for all players as they enter the league from the draft. This makes Victor the second tallest player in the NBA, behind Boban Marjanovic (7'4) and ahead Kristaps Porzingas (7'3)</ref>https://www.nba.com/news/victor-wembanyama-officially-listed-at-7-foot-3-5-inches-tall</ref> — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.114.91.83 (talk) 02:37, 1 July 2023 (UTC)

A source is here. However, he's not technically "listed" anywhere as that (yet). NBA.com still shows him as 7'5".[1] Historically, the league hasn't listed w/ 12 either, so it's interesting to see if they round up or down, or start a new trend. I don't oppose some update in the article, but it's nuanced at this point, and not straightforward.—Bagumba (talk) 06:24, 29 June 2023 (UTC)
The (inofficial) 7-3+12 measurement by the Spurs was bare foot. NBA.com lists in shoes, so I expect Wembanyama's listed height to remain 7-5 for the foreseeable future. --bender235 (talk) 17:58, 6 July 2023 (UTC)
Actually, the NBA started measuring w/o shoes a few years ago. —Bagumba (talk) 18:13, 6 July 2023 (UTC)
Measuring yes, but players are still listed with their in-shoes height. For example, Amen Thompson was measured 6-5+34 at the NBA combine, but is listed at 6-7 on NBA.com. --bender235 (talk) 20:14, 6 July 2023 (UTC)
No, the NBA claims it's w/o shoes.[2] Still, not sure when between now and start of season that teams required to certify and list.—Bagumba (talk) 21:35, 6 July 2023 (UTC)
If that's true must be a coincidence how every current rookie is listed 1 to 1+12 inches taller than his NBA combine bare-foot measurement, I guess. --bender235 (talk) 20:58, 7 July 2023 (UTC)

Brittany Spears incident

Should the Brittany Spears incident be added to Victor's article? It's been covered by AP News, ESPN, BBC, Yahoo Sports, The New York Times, etc. HappyBoi3892 (talk) 01:33, 8 July 2023 (UTC)

I have seen my edit has been changed by user:ActivBowser9177. What he states is that nba.com states him as 7'4 not 7'3.5, but while on his page it does state that he's 7'4 in a recent article made by the nba (https://www.nba.com/news/victor-wembanyama-officially-listed-at-7-foot-3-5-inches-tall) showed he's 7'3.5 without shoes, and all nba players are measured without shoes so its likely a error missed by a nba employee. So please change it back to: "7'3.5 (2.22 meters)" 75.6.195.52 (talk) 14:52, 14 October 2023 (UTC)

Not done. Just because the nba.com article stated that he was 7' 3.5" barefoot doesn't mean that the Wikipedia page should have him listed as such, as it is very substandard to have a player's height listed in the decimals; many sports sources always rounds a player's height (including the heights of NBA players) to the nearest inch, therefore his Wikipedia page's height in the infobox should not be listed at 7' 3.5", but rather 7' 4" because that's what his official profile on NBA.com lists him at (while 7' 3.5" should also be rounded up to 7' 4" too). The source has already been put in from my recent edit request therefore it is unneeded to put it in there a second time. 75.6.195.52 (talk) 14:38, 14 October 2023 (UTC)

Not done: The source commonly used for a player's height is their official NBA profile, which currently reports his height as 7'4" (2.24m). As explained in the section below, this measurement is rounded to the nearest inch when reported by the NBA. Unless the NBA changes their reported height for Wembanyama, it should remain. -- Pinchme123 (talk) 18:38, 15 October 2023 (UTC)
