Uncle Sparky was blind in his right eye is why he wasn't drafted.
When he was at Duke his freshman year, the freshman were scrimmaging the first team. Uncle Sparky was putting the first team out, so the story goes.. The Duke Coach called Morris Harvey and told the coach, that he had a heck of an athlete, if he could handle him. And, he ended up playing for Morris Harvey, went immediately to the draft then to Morris Harvey to coach for 11 years under Eddie King. He was Offensive Coordinator for WV'S only semi-pro team, the Charleston Rockets.
He was an inductee to the WV Sports Writers Hall of Fame. FIRST Inductee in the Morris Harvey/University of Charleston Hall of Fame, and the first class of Inductees into the Williamson High School Hall of Fame. Schonna (talk) 03:05, 27 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
