Peer review comments thus far
[edit]First of all, great job on your edits! I like the depth of information on this page and overall structure. The breakdown of PALM-COEIN into a bulleted list was a very helpful change that allows the information to flow much better and in much more manageable chunks of information. It even allows the reader to skim through information that may not be as pertinent to them.
The main recommendations I would make are more nit-picky and regard simplifying some of the material, increasing citations, and cleaning up statements that seemed confusing or out of place. Some examples:
- the header "differential diagnosis" may be able to be changed to something such as "potential causes.”
- The first sentence under the differential diagnosis requires a high reading level to understand. "The parameters for normal menstruation have been defined as a result of an international process designed to simplify terminologies and definitions for abnormalities of menstrual bleeding"
- The last portion of the Complications section (the discussion of iron deficiency anemia and treatment) has no citations.
- No direct citation for information in Polyps under PALM-COEIN (although I imagine it could be the same citation as what is introducing the acronym in general).
- The diagnostic evaluation section seemed somewhat jumbled. Ex) “In an emergency or acute setting, vaginal bleeding can lead to hypovolemia. Postcoital bleeding is bleeding that occurs after sexual intercourse.” - This Is a paragraph on its own and seems like two separate ideas
These comments are somewhat subjective, and may be areas of constant revision. It also would take considerable time and many different individual edits to filter through the entire article in this way, which may be outside of the scope of this specific time bound assignment. Again, I feel the overall content of this article is very informative and the structural components are presented in a well-organized manner. Finishing up the epidemiology section is one obvious large-scale addition to come, but it otherwise seems to now require passing over the article multiple times with a more fine tooth comb. Good work on your edits! The page seemed like it had a lot of information on it that I think you made more clear and concise by reorganizing into the PALM-COIEN mnemonic. I think you did a great job adding citations and including links to abnormal uterine bleeding and other related topics throughout the article. The introduction reads really well, and I agree with Logan's comment that the differential diagnosis tab can be changed to either "potential causes" or "different stages of life" or the like since it seems like the section is based on discussing vaginal bleeding at different ages.
I might recommend removing the subheading FIGO classification under diagnostic bleeding since it's more about uterine bleeding, but it could be a subjective choice. I would recommend adding more to the epidemiology section as you have already planned, and either remove the "See also" or add the links you had planned in your plan to the See also section.
Overall, I think your edits are coming along quite nicely and the article looks great!

Wikipedia for the Medical Editor
[edit]I am making edits to this article as a part of my couse, Wikipedia for the Medical Editor.
The plans I have for this article are as follows:
- Add a perimenopausal section, I feel this is a time a lot of patients have AUB and are wanting to find answers
- Add more info to the postmenopausal section. There are causes of vaginal bleeding during this time that aren't necessarily abnormal, such as bleeding d/t decreased estrogen and vaginal atrophy
- Add more to the bleeding in pregnancy section
- Change epidemiology section, the content seems to relate more to etiology, so I will combine that with the differential section. May delete epidemiolgy section all together, could be a potential future direction for this article. However, with the many different causes for vaginal bleeding, I feel that an epidemiology section could be confusing.
- Change formatting of PALM-COEIN section to make it more reader-friendly.
- Add information about diagnosis/treatment in the Lead section, to make it more complete. Abilli4 (talk) 15:20, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
