- The Lighthouse Invites the Storm, Trevor Hoyle explores the life and work of Malcolm Lowry, who died 50 years ago, leaving behind a jumble of manuscripts and two memorable novels. The semi-autobiographical Under the Volcano, concerning the last alchohol-fuelled 24 hours of an English ex-consul in Mexico, sealed Lowry's reputation in his own chaotic lifetime. Lowry's own self-destructive demons lay behind much of his fiction, yet they were accompanied by considerable humour and courage.
