Building out the page
[edit]I'm working on fleshing this page out and getting it organized. As the longest-serving speaker, she's got quite a record of notable successes and failures. Also, if she ends up Governor, it'll be good to have gotten a head start. Would love your help! —Karichisholm (talk) 05:52, 3 September 2022 (UTC)
Minor edit war discussion
[edit]In reviewing this page's history, I noticed that there was some copy about an allegation that Kotek had violated House rules in 2007. Three times (July 14, August 25, August 26) that copy was removed -- and then reverted.
Before I noticed the revert history, I made an edit to the copy to ensure that it matched the cited source. To wit, that the allegation of a rule violation was against Kotek's spouse, not Kotek.
The copy is now accurate -- or at least, it matches the cited source. But now I'm wondering if it should be here at all. After all, this is an article about Kotek, not Kotek's spouse. (Perhaps if she wins the governorship, and her spouse becomes Oregon's first lady, there will be an article about her -- and this copy would be appropriate there.)
But, given the previous edit war, I want to be cautious. Anyone object to removing this copy? I'm going to circle back here in a week to remove if I hear no objections. Thanks! —Karichisholm (talk) 06:58, 3 September 2022 (UTC)
- OK, hearing no objections, I'm going to remove that copy. I've pasted it here for posterity. Should Aimee Kotek Wilson get her own Wikipedia entry, it may be appropriate there. Karichisholm (talk) 18:52, 12 September 2022 (UTC)
- In April 2007, Kotek's spouse, Aimee Kotek Wilson, was accused by the Republican leader, Wayne Scott, of violating Oregon House rules when she joined Kotek on the House floor during the debate on marriage equality legislation.[1]

Stray copy
[edit]The following copy was inserted into the middle of a reference markup, causing the reference to blow up. It strikes me as NPOV and unsourced, but I'm adding it here in case whoever put it in (an anonymous IP user) wants to clean it up and try again. Karichisholm (talk) 18:27, 16 October 2022 (UTC)
- Kotek’s redistricting plan over political boundaries was criticized as among the most biased in the nation. Even lawmakers of her own political party engaged in a lawsuit to stop it. Rural Oregonian lawmakers were shut out of the process and therefore new political boundaries gave disproportionate voting power to big cities over rural Oregon and voting power to a single political party over every other political party. https:Kotek pushed through the largest tax in Oregon history (Corporate Activities tax) which forced NW grown Bi-Mart to close all of its pharmacy stores. They even took a full page newspaper ad blaming the tax (see below.//oregoncatalyst.com/62310-koteks-cowboy-hat-stunt-betrays-rural-oregon-values.html
Full name
[edit]There was a dispute here about a half-hour ago between @Jon698: and @Abram Schlimper: about whether "Tina" is short for "Christine". I couldn't find any clear RS supporting that, partly because the results were flooded with mentions of Drazan, Kotek's opponent, except for this old filing with the Oregon SoS. One "Christine Kotek" is listed as Treasurer of Tina Kotek's campaign for state House. However, it's possible that Christine Kotek is a relative of Tina Kotek, especially as "Tina Kotek" is given as the candidate's name here. Hope this helps, Augusthorsesdroppings10 (talk) 16:53, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you @Augusthorsesdroppings10: for contributing to the discussion. I'm quite certain "Christine Kotek" that Treasurer of Tina's state House campaign is none other than Tina herself. If you'd look up 'Christine Kotek' in a people search engine like Spokeo or WhitePages, you'll see there is only one Christine Kotek in the whole state of Oregon and she's listed as living in North Portland at a Kenton neighborhood address. There is also a Christine Koteck living in Hillsboro but the spelling of the last name is slightly different. Abram Schlimper (talk) 20:05, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Augusthorsesdroppings10: Thank you for finding that information. I completely forgot about Oregon's easy to access campaign finance reports. @Abram Schlimper: In Oregon you are allowed to serve as your own campaign treasurer so I'll be adding in the information. Jon698 (talk) 01:09, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
- Now I have a definitive answer. @Jon698: @Augusthorsesdroppings10: From her mother's obituary:
- The couple moved to York in 1963 when Jerry got a job with the former Borg Warner. Their first daughter Susan was born the next year with twins Christine and Steven following two years later. Abram Schlimper (talk) 01:12, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
- Glad I could help. I did insert "Tina" in between "Christine" and "Kotek" in the lead, so that it's easy to discern that this is a nickname. Augusthorsesdroppings10 (talk) 01:51, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
Edit war: far left
[edit]A particular anonymous user has felt the need twice in the past week to add "far-left American politician" to the first sentence of this page. It was removed once, then the same IP added it again about a day later, and it has since been removed again. Seems like someone with too much time on their hands is trolling the page. Regardless, this type of edit is inflammatory and overly politicized. They'll probably try this again, so keep an eye out for this and other bad faith edits. 2601:1C0:6480:4ED0:BCEA:6D26:CC93:B011 (talk) 13:48, 27 April 2023 (UTC)
- If it keeps up I'll just protect the article or block them. Steven Walling • talk 02:41, 30 April 2023 (UTC)
