Name?
[edit]It is not clear in the lead why the period is 2004 to present. There have been different stages in migration in Europe from 2004 to present, and as far as I know, only the period 2015-2019 is widely recognized as an EU-level crisis. Maybe a more appropriate title would be Timeline of migration to the European Union? --MarioGom (talk) 15:15, 9 March 2020 (UTC)
- I agree, I think it's kind of a political move to call it a crisis too. The proposed name change seems more neutral. delldot ∇. 23:00, 18 April 2022 (UTC)
- I also agree — either change the name, or delete all the bits not clearly related to the 2015 crisis. If we change the name, it would be good to clarify what we mean by European Union - the current (1993 onward) iteration, or also include its predecessor organizations. --Tserton (talk) 10:51, 15 May 2022 (UTC)
- I see that another editor has deleted the portions relating to pre-2014 and after 2016. I would go further: rename the page to Timeline of the 2015 European migrant crisis to synchronize with 2015 European migrant crisis and remove everything from the "Aftermath" section that isn't strictly related to 2015. I think it would also be good to rethink how we cover shipwrecks and drownings — mentioning them line-by-line in between a bunch of political events does a disservice to the informativeness of the article, and doesn't do much to humanize the victims. It also makes the number seem smaller than it was, since the article doesn't come close to covering every death (3500+ refugees drowned in the Mediterranean in 2015 alone). One option might be to make a dedicated section for Shipwrecks and Deaths. --Tserton (talk) 09:36, 17 May 2022 (UTC)
- I wouldn't oppose renaming this Timeline of the 2015 European migrant crisis to match the main article, 2015 European migrant crisis. This would also prevent unregistered editors adding stuff about the Ukrainian refugee crisis. However, we shouldn't remove everything after 2015, as the crisis lasted into 2016 (the EU-Turkey deal was agreed in March that year), and arguably into 2017 (when the Italy-Libya deal was agreed). Important events that were a direct result of the crisis should be kept. ~Asarlaí 10:40, 17 May 2022 (UTC)
- Yes, sorry, I should have been more clear: definitely keep post-2015 events as long as they're still related to the aftermath of the 2015 crisis. --Tserton (talk) 13:15, 17 May 2022 (UTC)
- No problem. I've went ahead and moved the page to that title. ~Asarlaí 13:48, 17 May 2022 (UTC)
