Copy changes

[edit]

Early life

[edit]
  • Add comma after Virginia (WP:COMMA)
  • Consider consolidating paragraphs 2 and 3 and maybe 4-5-6

Adult life

[edit]
  • Consider adding one or two more level 3 headers to this section
  • Fix typo: "we was neighbors"
  • He shortly after living here built is weirdly worded. Change to Shortly after living here, he built
  • Hyphenate "1,000 acre"
  • You can probably remove ", Illinois" from "DuPage County, Illinois"
  • to his brother-in-law Jedediah Lathrop, where Lathrop built his own estate named Huntington — consider rewording to to his brother-in-law, Jedediah Lathrop, who built his own estate named Huntington on the site
  • Change semicolon after "children" to a comma; it does not join two sentences that could standalone
  • Add comma after "Page Bryan"
  • Bryan established a reputation for himself as a gifted orator — awkwardly stands alone, maybe consolidate with last or next paragraph?
  • Capitalize "Civil War"
  • "Demcorats" — fix typo
  • Capitalize the U in Union in $300,000 for union soldiers
  • Is "Deposity" correct?
  • vice president World's Congress Auxiliary add "of the"
  • brain, vocal organs — change to "brain and vocal organs" and drop the comma after. This sentence has a lot of commas.
  • "to be scam" missing an "a"

Art collection

[edit]
  • No copy issues

Collector

[edit]
  • city lost courthouse — city's lost courthouse w/ possessive

References

[edit]
  • Ref #41 is missing accessdate.
  • Archive references using IABot (can do this upon request).
  • Clip citations to newspapers.com (have done this for you as a courtesy, since I have a TWL subscription). This enables them to be viewed by non-newspapers.com subscribers.
  • Use a script to harmonize references to use mdy dates: User:Ohconfucius/script/MOSNUM dates.

Other notes

[edit]
  • Images are all appropriately captioned and PD (as expected given the age of the topic).
  • No copyvio; Earwig tool captures common phrases like "in the collection of" and organization names.

Most of the changes are copy changes and reference tidying; since this has sat so long perhaps it's just that at this point an article often needs fresh eyes more than anything. If you need help with IABot or the date format script, I'd be happy to assist. This is on hold for 7 days, SecretName101. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 05:18, 28 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I see most of the changes have been made (I did the other couple that might have been missed), so I am going to promote the page to GA. Very nice work Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 01:43, 29 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
