[edit]Edits undertaken in January 2010 have added citations from reliable third-party publications, in response to the 'Primary sources' tag. This tag has therefore been removed.
Comments relating to the maintenance of NPV are welcome, as these edits have been undertaken by a current employee of Cambia in response to the request to add citations by another editor. Every effort has been made to preserve NPV, and to adhere to Wikipedia policy on COI. Felix42 (talk) 03:17, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
Merge?
[edit]Now that this software has been superseded, should this article just become a redirect to The Lens with the content here becoming a paragraph in that article? Dbfirs 10:54, 22 October 2017 (UTC)
Move?
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest was declined. The COI editor should use the {{Requested move}} process. |
- Explanation of issue: As suggested by Dbfirs, this page should be moved to The Lens with a redirect from Patent Lens. The Lens was renamed from Patent Lens in 2012, and has been The Lens ever since, see links below. In addition, The Lens has become more than a patent and biological sequence search database, and has been providing scholarly works (i.e. scholarly papers) since 2014, with a significant corpus of scholarly works added in late 2017 making it a Bibliographic database.
- Information to be added or removed: Move/Rename the page to The Lens (with a redirect from the Patent Lens). Add "(formerly known as the Patent Lens)" to the first line. Add bibliographic database to the description/type of site.

Patent Lens → The Lens – The Lens was renamed from Patent Lens in 2012, see: https://about.lens.org/when/, http://www.bios.net/daisy/patentlens/patentlens.html, http://www.bios.net/daisy/patentlens/4820 AB (talk) 02:29, 19 November 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose. This was already discussed about a year ago at the AfD for The Lens. Kingofaces43 (talk) 04:00, 19 November 2018 (UTC)
- Questions: Why not Lens.org? Does this website need a fork from CAMBIA? Is the CAMBIA website more notable than The Lens (band)? In ictu oculi (talk) 12:19, 19 November 2018 (UTC)
- CAMBIA isn't an article I had seen yet, so thanks for bringing that up. Seeing that, I would actually suggest merging a condensed portion of this article to CAMBIA#Projects and deleting this page. Patent Lens/The Lens really don't have much secondary coverage to really warrant WP:GNG, so that article would give a home to some brief mention and take care of the problems we ran into at the last AfD. Kingofaces43 (talk) 17:00, 19 November 2018 (UTC)
- Lens.org would be fine, though it is more commonly referred to as The Lens. AB (talk) 08:48, 20 November 2018 (UTC)
- To provide a counter to AfD and an analogy, there are pages for the patent database Derwent World Patents Index and academic database Web of Science owned by Clarivate Analytics, as well as a page for the academic and patent search database Scopus owned by Elsevier. The Lens covers more patent jurisdictions (nearly 100) than the Derwent World Patents Index and has more scholarly works than both Scopus and Web of Science. In addition, the Lens was spun out as a US-registered public benefit company in 2017. AB (talk) 08:48, 20 November 2018 (UTC)
- Please read WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. What matters is the sourcing mentioned above and at the AFD. Kingofaces43 (talk) 16:32, 20 November 2018 (UTC)

- Oppose for now. I did some work to clean up the mess that nom made with this over-aggressive name-changing edit. Some more careful attention may still be in order. Dicklyon (talk) 04:24, 23 November 2018 (UTC)

It was proposed in this section that Patent Lens be renamed and moved to The Lens.

Patent Lens → The Lens – The NPO patent search website has been renamed to "The Lens". Please remove the previous self-redirect page at "The Lens" and move "Patent Lens" over. Zhenqinli (talk) 02:53, 3 September 2020 (UTC)—Relisting. —usernamekiran (talk) 06:34, 10 September 2020 (UTC)

- Oppose per last move discussion just above this and the last AfD. Consensus has been to keep the subject here, and nothing seems to have changed since then that would trigger a move. Kingofaces43 (talk) 19:20, 4 September 2020
- Support or move to Lens.org: The logo uses "Lens.org". Other places on the website and LinkedIn page use "The Lens". I don't see any trace of "Patent Lens" on the website or LinkedIn page, and after some searching my impression is that the vast majority of post-2012 sources use the new name(s). WP:NAMECHANGES implies that we should give priority to sources published after a name change. Years and years have gone by since the rebranding, and I get the impression that the old name is fading away. Here, here, here, here, here, here and here are some independent reliable sources (and here, here and here, here and here are some additional sources) that use the new name. —BarrelProof (talk) 04:22, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
- Comment There is a local online news outlet in New Orleans called The Lens.[1] davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 20:57, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
- Unless it is discussed on Wikipedia, that doesn't seem important to consider. —BarrelProof (talk) 14:41, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
