Identity

[edit]

The man is named Jonathan Briley. 71.38.129.68 (talk) 08:27, 15 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A useless statement without a source. Marcus Markup (talk) 09:55, 15 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No, I agree with the OP (“original poster”). He or she hardly needs to cite a source when the information is already in the article. It’s in the “Identification” section. There’s pretty compelling evidence that Jonathan Briley was Falling Man.
But like the OP, I really think the introductory section of this article should mention his name as well. We could add something like, “He is believed to have been Jonathan Briley, an employee of Windows on the World” or “Although his identity has not been proven definitively, Falling Man was most likely Jonathan Briley, an employee of Windows on the World”.
The degree of confidence that Briley was Falling Man is high enough that we shouldn’t make it out like we still have no idea who Falling Man was. That’s not the case. We’re about 99% confident that we do know who he was: Jonathan Briley. So we should include that man’s name somewhere in the opening paragraphs of the article.
