Enough Citations

[edit]

Does this have enough citations now to pull the refimprove tag? Vajzë Blu (talk) 04:36, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

As still another source has been added and there's been no objection, I'll remove the tag. Vajzë Blu (talk) 01:41, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Withheld from Syndication?

[edit]

According to The Twilight Zone Companion by Marc Scott Zicree, 1982:

Like "Miniature," "A Short Drink From a Certain Fountain" and "Sounds and Silences," "The Encounter" is not in syndication. The reasons for this are not clear. ... The ex-Marine mouths a number of tirades against the Japanese and Japanese-Americans, fillet with a variety of racial epithets. Also, there's the matter of the private guilts the characters carry. [p. 423]

This directly contradicts the claim that it was the only episode withheld from syndication, and it casts a little uncertainty on whether that decision was solely because of the racially-charged material.

Neither of the two cited references actually claim it was the only episode withheld from syndication. The CBR.com article says:

In many cases, the removal from circulation involved intellectual property rights, like Season 5, Episode 22, "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge."

And in the YouTube clip, George Takei says:

["The Encounter"] has the unique distinction of being the only Twilight Zone series [sic] that was aired only once.

That's a distinctly different claim than the one in this article.
