[edit]G'day everybody. Just made this page when I realised that all of the links to the Desert Rats movie directed to the actual British 7th Armoured Division page instead of one about the film, so I made this. I haven't actually seen the movie so if anybody would like to expand it, be my guest. DarkSideOfTheSpoon 09:31, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Rats moviep.jpg
[edit]Image:Rats moviep.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page. If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BetacommandBot (talk) 22:27, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
The General
[edit]While unnamed, the General is twice stated to be an Australian, including by Rommel (James Mason). Why do we use "allied general" I wonder? Nickm57 (talk) 10:08, 12 June 2020 (UTC)

The Desert Rats (film) → The Desert Rats – Sole such Wikipedia main title header, thus obviating need for the parenthetical qualifier (film)". Likewise, there is no need for both Desert Rats and The Desert Rats redirecting to 7th Armoured Division (United Kingdom) which makes the film difficult to find. A hatnote at 7th Armoured Division (United Kingdom) indicates — "Desert Rats" redirects here. For other uses, see Desert rat (disambiguation). — thus implying that a film entitled "The Desert Rats" doesn't even exist. Users who do continue to the Desert rat [lowercase "r"] disambiguation page will ultimately find the film along with more uppercase "Rat(s)" than lowercase "rat(s)" entries. — Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 00:41, 3 December 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. - Strongly oppose. The division is famous, as is its nickname, more so than the film (though not by a large margin in these historically illiterate times). Clarityfiend (talk) 01:09, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
- Support per WP:SMALLDETAILS. It seems the nickname for the division was simply Desert Rats; leave that targeting the division as a primary redirect, but the only (or at least primary) topic for "The Desert Rats" is the film. Update hatnotes to directly link between the film and the division, in addition to the dab page. Hatnotes and the dab page serve the disambiguation needs here. Mdewman6 (talk) 04:14, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
- That's a very dubious distinction. If this were a real difference, why wasn't the film titled Desert Rats? It took its name from the unit. Clarityfiend (talk) 11:43, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
- As for Spinner's concern about the hatnote, simply add another redirect hatnote for "The Desert Rats", linking to the film. Clarityfiend (talk) 12:02, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
- Support per Mdewman6. Theparties (talk) 04:27, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose as per Clarityfiend. Nickm57 (talk) 10:29, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose because Google Books shows "Desert Rats" and "The Desert Rats" frequently in relation to the armoured division, including at least two books I see that write "The Desert Rats" as part of the title. Evidence is here. Perhaps the hatnote can be expanded to include something like, "The Desert Rats redirects here. For the film, see The Desert Rats (film)"?
