The Ark and Dove
[edit]I was wondering why there are two separate pages on the Ark and Dove as historically they are usually always seen together, as they traveled together. Both pages have basically the same information. In fact it looks like some of the Ark entry was copied and pasted into the Dove. Wouldn't it save space and confusion to combine the two pages? - Would anyone object to merging these two articles? -- Lady Meg (talk) 06:17, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
- I created this page and, as long as the merge is done properly, I have no objection. Not sure about the title page though. Perhaps The Ark and The Dove is better than The Ark and Dove. As it stands, the page for the Dove has things slightly backwards - it seems to have been created as a page about the modern facsimile, with the original ship being added as a historical note. - I see no problem with a combination. The ships are notable together; then you can add in the replica. I created Maryland Federalist which covers the original and the replica because, individually, the two boats wouldn't be notable enough to stand alone. —Diiscool (talk) 14:31, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

- Oppose, as each is notable and notable ships each merit an article. Although they briefly sailed together, the two mostly had different histories, and one was presumed lost at sea when the other was not. Moonraker (talk) 12:28, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
I would oppose the merger because the Maryland Dove is not in fact a replica of the original Dove but rather a reconstruction of a small trading ship of roughly the same size. In many respects the "Maryland Dove" is a big ship in miniature and probably not at all what the original Dove looked like in terms of rig. I am planning to create a separate article specifically for the Dove as I believe all three ships deserve their own page. Shuilung (talk) 18:42, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
Article name
[edit]Is there any reason why this article is The Ark (ship) rather than Ark (ship)? I am not seeing any evidence that the formal name included "The". When last added to the article text no references were given. Davidships (talk) 22:33, 3 January 2022 (UTC)
- Pending resolution of this question I have edited the article for consistency, following the article title for now. Davidships (talk) 15:21, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
- I'd defer to an expert on this, but I believe the formal name is Ark (no The). If I stumble upon some book citations, I'll post them here. StevePrutz (talk) 18:04, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
