New names?

[edit]

I think this article:

[1]

Is calling them by two new names: Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), or Pakistan Alban Movement

Should we add this to the wiki or should these get new wikies? Thanks for your time Bluetd (talk) 14:01, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

From what I can tell, TNSM is part of TTP. It's sometimes referred to as the Swati Taliban. The TNSM seem to answer to Baitullah Mehsud and his spokesperson. I have not yet been able to find a source that explicitly says this, however.--RDavi404 (talk) 04:22, 1 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
This article from Al Jazeera supports a link between the two groups. [2] I have updated the intro paragraph to include this information.--RDavi404 (talk) 14:31, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re: New names

[edit]

The two groups may be linked now, but TNSM was founded earlier than the Taliban (in 1992), by Sufi Muhammad. TTP leadership is in Waziristan (Baytullah Mehsud) whereas TNSM leadership is in Dir (Sufi Muhammad). The links between the groups are because the leader of TTP in Swat, Fazlullah, is Sufi Muhammad's son-in-law, and also because the groups have similar aims.

TNSM's influence never spread out of Malakand division, whereas TTP basically got started in the tribal areas of the NWFP. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.240.232.206 (talk) 05:17, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The bulk of the history section is copied and pasted from the Jamestown Foundation's Terrorism Focus, published in May 2006. For the most part all of the beginning that is not referenced is a copy and paste. The full URL is http://www.jamestown.org/programs/gta/single/?tx_ttnews[tt_news]=740&tx_ttnews[backPid]=239&no_cache=1.--RDavi404 (talk) 16:20, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The copyright infringing versions have been selectively deleted. Subsequent improvements to surrounding text have been reintroduced, with attribution in edit summary. Thank you for discovering this problem. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:11, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The translation of its name cannot be literal as the lead says

[edit]

It doesn’t mention “Mohammed”. 82.36.70.45 (talk) 02:10, 22 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
