Birthday and hog farm
[edit]I see that someone (first User:Ochs and then User:Marketmonkeys) removed Susan Werner's birthday, which was listed as [data removed], and then said that they did that "per her request". Well, there's no reason why one's birthday should not be listed on Wikipedia if they are notable enough to have a Wikipedia page. There's a link online with pictures showing Susan receiving a birthday cake at Club Passim in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on [data removed], and it says, "One other twist to the night. Monday is Susan's birthday, so road manager Jane brought a birthday cake up to the stage at the start of the encore, and the audience sang Happy Birthday to Susan."[1] According to that link, Monday would've been [data removed]. Is there really any doubt that's not her birthday? Not only that, but someone also removed the part in the article that said she grew up on a hog farm, even though I think that was mentioned in an article I read recently in Dirty Linen, and it's also definitely mentioned in her musicianguide.com biography.[2] It says, "Born c. 1965, in Manchester, Iowa; grew up on a hog farm." Well, I wouldn't know why that part would be removed from this article, unless someone thought that a pig farm wasn't glamorous enough or politically correct or whatever. But, it has been mentioned elsewhere in print, so I don't see why it wouldn't be notable enough for inclusion in this article. So, why would someone want to remove this information? This type of removal and/or censorship makes no sense to me. Steedhopper (talk) 19:31, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
As for her age, in her 1993 song Born A Little Late she sings, "I was four years old in nineteen-sixty-nine" so it is hardly a secret to anybody who has heard her recordings. 71.235.194.82 (talk) 01:46, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
- I do not know about any requests from Werner, but the official policy on biographies is at Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons, and I direct you specifically to WP:DOB, where it says, "With identity theft on the rise, people increasingly regard their full names and dates of birth as private. Wikipedia includes full names and dates of birth that have been widely published by reliable sources, or by sources linked to the subject such that it may reasonably be inferred that the subject does not object. If the subject complains about the inclusion of the date of birth, or the person is borderline notable, err on the side of caution and simply list the year..."
- Although it may be possible for one to easily figure the information out with enough searching, this is very different than having her private information in a Wikipedia article where it would be copied all over the net. -MrFizyx (talk) 20:10, 12 May 2011 (UTC)
