The verse (aka intro) and the title

The cited anecdote how "“Stella by Starlight” is unusual in that its title is not at the beginning or end of the song but about three-quarters of the way through." does not appear to be true.

The song is often sung with a verse (or an intro) at the beginning of the song, with the first lyrics being "Have you seen Stella by starlight". It appears in many vocal versions of the song (for example, Johnny Mathis) and appears on vintage sheet music for the song.
