William, or Patrick?
[edit]Someone posted a request at WP:RM to move this page to Patrick "Staker" Wallace, citing the evidently true fact that more of the sources call him Patrick than William. Is there any opposition to this suggestion? -GTBacchus(talk) 00:15, 7 March 2009 (UTC)
- Oppose It seems no-one is really sure what his first name really was, because it was hardly ever used. Just omit it entirely and move the article to his common name, Staker Wallace. --Rogerb67 (talk) 13:08, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
- This was so obviously the right solution in my eyes, I've boldly gone ahead and made the change. If anyone objects just carry on the discussion here and it can be moved to the agreed target (or back to its current title). --Rogerb67 (talk) 13:18, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
Discussion of Wallace's first name OR?
[edit]The section discussing naming patterns in justification of Wallace's first name being "Patrick" are unreferenced and read like possible original research. Can someone provide a reliable source making these arguments? Is it established scholarship, or should it be attributed? --Rogerb67 (talk) 13:24, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
Irish naming patterns
[edit]The traditional pattern for naming Irish children is common knowledge among genealogists. It is not original research. See, for example, http://ahd.exis.net/monaghan/irish-names-naming.htm, http://www.mengelfamily.com/naming/namingirish.htm, http://www.ballyd.com/results/namingpatterns.htm, http://www.igp-web.com/cork/Naming.html, etc. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.183.178.121 (talk) 00:26, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
