What if there's a new Sonic TV show coming

  • Included Sonic the hedgehog Archie comics, Sonic Universe, Mobius 25 Years Later and others.
  • Other TV shows (Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog SatAm, Sonic Underground, Sonic the Hedgehog the Movie, and Sonic X.)
I hope there is. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.71.47.212 (talk) 20:01, 16 May 2011 (UTC)
WP:NOTAFORUM - In short, these discussion pages are for discussing how to better the article, not your personal wishes for the cartoon series itself. It has to stick to being about the actual article. Thanks! Sergecross73 msg me 20:33, 16 May 2011 (UTC)

Huh?

When I look at this page and see something, I try to edit it but it doesn't show up on the edit page. Can someone help? 66.65.112.15 (talk) 18:17, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

Other Sonic Series

There are three Western Sonic cartoons:

The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog Sonic the Hedgehog: The Animated Series And Sonic Underground

There are two Japanese Sonic Anime:

The O.V.A. And Sonic_X

I don't think they are all equally represented: the Western cartoons are wildly different from one another, and from the games, while the Japanese Anime are closer to the videogame style. All were influential in shaping the Sonic franchise, but they are only loosely related and the Western cartoons, although they shaped more of Sonic (all the way up to Sonic and the Black Knight) They are declared unfit for reference material, other Sonic "reference" sites refuse to reference them appropriately. Sonic Underground and The Adventures of Sonic need some TLC, Sonic: the Animated Series needs more recognition. 198.85.210.203 (talk) 13:14, 31 October 2011 (UTC)

Original airdate

As I've changed the "original run" range to extend to 2005 a couple of times and it's been reverted on both occasions, I'm going to bring the issue up here.

Yes, the episodes that aired in Japan only came out until 2004. However, further episodes continued to be made until 2005. To exclude those episodes from the "original run" seems unjustly Japan-centric, especially when they're mentioned elsewhere in the infobox.

I will add a specification in the infobox; then I will be off for now. Tezero (talk) 21:28, 1 February 2014 (UTC)

Sonic X (comics) merge

Following the closure of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sonic X (comics), I have gone ahead and selectively merged the content from the page Sonic X (comics) to the "Other media" section of this article. I've tried to select the most relevant parts, and the merger was done WP:BOLDly. If you feel something was left out of the merger that shouldn't have been, the old article is still viewable. Feel free to merge anything additional if you feel it is necessary. Regards, Mz7 (talk) 22:48, 4 April 2014 (UTC)

Image

The current image is unsatisfying. The resolution is distractingly low, and there aren't really enough characters shown, particularly those unique to Sonic X. I mean, there's no Ella, Bocoe, Decoe, Bokkun, Cosmo, Tanaka, or anyone else other than Chris. I'm open to alternative suggestions, but one of the following seems the safest:

Tezero (talk) 15:14, 10 April 2014 (UTC)

I totally agree. The first image appears to be the best option, although it should be scaled down and cropped when uploaded. Mz7 (talk) 02:13, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
Alright, I've done that one. Tezero (talk) 02:31, 12 April 2014 (UTC)

Sonic X Trading Card Game merged

Per notability concerns, I have boldly merged the content of the article Sonic X Trading Card Game to this article's "Other media" section. Just like before, I have tried to select the most relevant content and omitted content that is not suitable for an encyclopedia. If you feel that I omitted something I shouldn't have, the old article is still viewable. Feel free to merge anything additional. If you disagree with this merge, please leave a note below when you reverse the changes. Thanks! Mz7 (talk) 02:09, 20 April 2014 (UTC)

Season 3 airdates

It's flagrantly misleading to state that Sonic X aired from 2003 to 2004. However, that's about what we're left with without official airfares for the third season. I wonder if they could be found in the English-language DVDs. Tezero (talk) 06:17, 24 April 2014 (UTC)

Part of the problem is while the English dates are made available, the listed date is based off the version of origin, which is Japanese. This was of the original run, as the show was initially only schedule for 52 episodes and it did complete it's run. Because the fact that Episodes 53 through 78 never were released in Japan until about September 2010 or so (with these rental stream only), we cannot put a source date down. The other problem that remains is the show finished airing in Thailand before any other country, but the air dates are not easy to track down and there does not appear to be an official source to back up the information either, to include it. The only thing that is known these episodes started back up in February 2005, but it's unknown as to when it finished or started exactly. The wikipedia, however, does note the English air dates on the Episodes section, which you can find that information there. Mendinso (talk) 04:05, 6 May 2014 (UTC)

factual verification

Sonic X article has been tagged for "needing factual verification" for months and I can't tell between fact and false info. Is there anybody who can distinguish between fact and false info in this article? PrestonH August 30th, 2006

I probably could scan through the article and see if there's any issues. - Mendinso
For some reason, removing a part of the trivia (About characters not showing serious signs of injury), it keeps popping back. This is untrue as during the second half, characters die, get hurt. (Even to the extent of Chris's ribs being broke. This is implied as he grabs his chest when he first wakes up in pain and groans.) Even then, there's characters getting hurt during the first part of the series. - Mendinso

Sonic X in Germany

In Germany, Sonic X runs on Jetix, too.

Image 2: Eclectic Lookaloo

I feel like the current screenshot used to represent Sonic X beyond what the DVD shows is less than ideal. It made sense when I stuck it up, but now that I look at it, it doesn't really add anything other than what Cosmo looks like and a bit of the ship that most of Season 3 takes place on. And really, it isn't the best picture of Cosmo available; her eyes are a little slanted and her frame a little wide. (Inb4 European beauty standards.) Does anyone know of, or would anyone be able to find, a screenshot that shows as many of these things as possible? They're in descending importance:

  • Cosmo, in a more typical look
  • The Metarex, or at least one of them
  • Bokkun
  • The outer-space, sci-fi setting
  • Some kind of use of CGI

This is the best I can find, but it kind of creates the impression of Sonic being the hero to save Cosmo and Amy, which isn't really representative of the show. Sonic isn't even that major a character. Tezero (talk) 17:46, 26 June 2014 (UTC)

Very nice work; obviously polished beforehand. Only question: is there any verification from Pollock that the Sonic Team Forum interview is genuine? I think it is, but being a self-published forum post, you may want to clarify this to readers somehow. Maybe look through this old snapshot of his site here. Erm, looks like all InvisionFree links are actually blacklisted, so I can't make any copy edits. Might want to try requesting for it to be whitelisted, but until you can confirm that it's real, it looks like it will have to be omitted. Not a big deal. 23W (talk) 22:35, 6 July 2014 (UTC)

I'd forgotten all about that. I realized that while preparing the page for GAN and started a discussion at MediaWiki talk:Spam-whitelist, but it looks like it still hasn't gotten any responses. There's a good amount of information there, too, so I'm hesitant to just scrap it. For a start, I'll mention at that page that this has become urgent. Tezero (talk) 22:49, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
Sounds good. Let's hope they can see it as authentic. For the record, here's two old interviews of Pollock regarding his work on the show: [4] and [5]. Maybe you can retool the paragraph to see if it has similar information if it's not too much work. 23W (talk) 23:05, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
I'll try. Thank you, by the way; I never would've found those. If they make sufficient substitutes, I'll try to link Mike Pollock's website somewhere there so the reader knows it's really from him. Tezero (talk) 23:12, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
23W, there was some content not covered in these two interviews, but I was able to stitch something alright together. I'll leave the whitelisting request up, but I think you can pass this now. Tezero (talk) 01:03, 7 July 2014 (UTC)
Done; good work. 23W (talk) 01:32, 7 July 2014 (UTC)

Nintendolife

What makes this a reliable source? The author isn't listed on their staff page (http://www.nintendolife.com/about) and he appears to be a user on the site here. Judging by his personal site, his only experience appears to be blogging (here). I suggest we remove it from the article. Andrzejbanas (talk) 18:12, 30 July 2014 (UTC)

I guess not that much relies on it. I deliberately wrote Reception to be as detailed as possible in case a couple sources were deemed unreliable, to make it less likely when I take this to FAC that someone will bring up the faux-sympathetic "not everything has enough coverage for FA" argument. Tezero (talk) 19:04, 30 July 2014 (UTC)

Sonic X Chris

Did you guys see the chapter on Plot when they were describing Chris and his family? Well, somebody wrote that he was GAY AND IN LOVE WITH SONIC! Does anybody know who that guy is? If so, in form me, I'm gonna have a little chat with him. (talk) 07:30, 27 September 2014 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 168.167.212.172 (talk)

I believe that was just another IP; you can check the article's history if you're interested in taking that up with them, though it seems like just simple vandalism that was easily removed. I mean, there's no evidence in the show that Chris or anyone else besides Amy is in love with Sonic (I nurture a few shippings, but none of them involve Sonic himself), so it's pretty logical that it's got to go. Tezero (talk) 06:10, 27 September 2014 (UTC)

Sonic X has stopped airing on American television. Today was the last day of it. It's a tremendously bittersweet moment for it to have passed FAC on the same day. Tezero (talk) 01:10, 28 September 2014 (UTC)

Regarding the Status of Sonic X's license...

Since there's been a recent revert in here, I figure I would clarify the status of the show in the United States. While information is partially speculative, it does seem to support that the series is no longer licensed in the United States. First off, there seems to be a confusion about regarding who controls the master rights to the series. TMS Entertainment, who was the production company in Japan, controls distribution for the series outside of Japan, rather than TV Tokyo or Shogakukan (the latter only had their US distribution arm control merchandising rights). This is also evident in some of the court documents provided by the lawsuit between TV Tokyo/ADK and 4Kids Entertainment at the time, which stated that 4Kids still owed TMS some money for the series license (amongst other titles lists in the license agreements). Another point into this argument is the fact that TMS Entertainment took over the distribution on Hulu, which also signifies that Saban Brands no longer distributes or owns the series in the United States (as other "Vortexx" titles still remain under "My Vortexx" label. [1]). We also had word from a reliable (though this can't be sourced on the main page, for various reasons) individual on the forums, Toon Zone, that he (or she) had hinted that Sonic X come this fall, would be gone for "Good". [2] At the time, it wasn't clear if what they meant was the block going under or the rights were expiring for the series. However, it does appear clear what's going on with the series.

You know, information being hosted on a forum doesn't automatically cast it as unreliable; it's just that the vast majority of posters wouldn't be. I think if, theoretically, someone asked, say, Mike Pollock about the show's current licensing (I imagine he has some idea), that information could be used. But if not, well, I can't be too surprised. The reason bringing this to FA in the first place was as maddening as it was is that there were so few usable sources. Tezero (talk) 16:09, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
Ah, that so? Wasn't aware we could technically use a forum as a source. Regarding Mike Pollock, I don't think he'll know. If the situation was that 4Kids Entertainment still had it (or still existed the way they did in the past, for that matter), I'm sure he'd probably be able to ask. But yeah, sources seem limited about this information and I wish I could provide more. Mendinso (talk) 20:25, 5 November 2014 (UTC)

Second, Sonic Team's involvement with the series was at the time of the show's production in Japan, but were not involved in the series' distribution. For that matter, as far as I am aware, Sonic Team exists only in name only, as it's been disbanded and more so used as a brand name for the Sonic series now. Sega also does not actively take part in the show's distribution, for that matter. Mendinso (talk) 14:11, 5 November 2014 (UTC)

Strange. I find it hard to believe that Sonic Team no longer exists given that a main-series game for 2015 has been announced, but I agree that it's unlikely to ever have been involved in the show's distribution; I always figured that was more of just a placeholder name for here since we just don't know all the time. Tezero (talk) 16:09, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
I can't remember when it happened, but Sega decided to just dismantle the team and just have it operate under Sega. Some of the members are still at Sega, however. But yeah, usually the network or animation studio (sometimes another third party) are the usual distributors for animation productions in Japan, rather than the original creator. In this case, Sonic X being TMS Entertainment. Though, sometimes things can be a bit more complicated, where rights are divided up between production committee members (Detective Conan, for instance, YTV and TMS distribute the series to different territories). Cast section?

There is a great deal of precedent for including a section in TV series articles about the cast of a show or their characters. The English dub cast of Sonic X is referred to several times in the sections about the show's development, localization, and reception, so I believe the inclusion of a small list of the show's key cast members—both Japanese and English—would be helpful and informative to readers. Since we already have List of Sonic the Hedgehog characters linked to, I don't think an outline of each character would be necessary. Mz7 (talk) 18:44, 2 June 2015 (UTC)

I think it was determined sometime in the GAN or PR that this wasn't a good idea since it could cross into the dreaded cruft waters. It's an unspoken reality that cartoons are treated differently from live-action shows here, and while there's plenty of precedent for including cast lists for shows starring real people, the standard seems to be different for anime such that I can't name one I've seen with an independent cast list, certainly not one at GA quality or higher. In particular, it might be seen as a problem since the show's cast overlaps so much with that of the games around that time. Maybe there are examples of other such articles in similar situations in which including a cast list has been decided upon, though. Tezero (talk) 20:03, 2 June 2015 (UTC)
Having a cruft-filled character list is the last thing I want. However, at least a mention what voice actors and actresses were involved in the production of an animated show just seems like a very critical piece of information about any creative animated undertaking—and one that we are currently leaving out. I looked at Wikipedia:WikiProject Anime and manga/Quality articles, and a bunch of the higher quality articles actually have standalone lists of characters which do state their voice actors/actresses, and the existence of a standalone list forgoes the need for a character-list section at the parent article. An example is Madlax, which is the only other FA-class anime article on WikiProject Anime's list than Sonic X.
Although we have a standalone list too, it covers the franchise as a whole, as opposed to just this show. Plus, there was a consensus there to omit voice actors in their character descriptions. To reduce the potential for cruft that comes with a separate cast section, we could instead try stating the voice actors' names in parentheses next to their corresponding characters in the "Plot" section of the article. Mz7 (talk) 21:56, 2 June 2015 (UTC)

License History in the Info Box

Recently it seems that the information has been subjected to being removed in the information box for the article. While I think it should be kept, since it gives a good history of who owned the series over the years, apparently one user feels only the current licensor should be kept here. I don't see any issues with it being there, so I don't think it should be removed. Mendinso (talk) 16:48, 8 June 2015 (UTC)

Thank you, Bfpage! It's also probably my proudest piece of work here due to the hard time I had finding some of the sources, but it's my favorite of the Sonic shows (granted, the only ones whose episodes I've seen all of are X and Boom) and there haven't been a lot of FAs on anime or video game spinoff media, so for me it was worth it. The sentence about no cut episodes

Great article, I just have a problem with this line:

"Unlike some other series that 4Kids translated around the early- to mid-2000s, such as Kirby: Right Back at Ya!, Sonic X suffered no full episodes being cut."

Are they saying that Kirby suffered full episodes being cut? This isn't true; all episodes of Kirby were in fact dubbed by 4kids. One Piece would be a better example to use, since they have had many episodes cut in the 4kids dub.

209.166.113.80 (talk) 23:27, 19 November 2016 (UTC)

I do not believe Kirby had entire episodes cut, no, but Kirby did have some scenes removed. I believe the most notable was a scene with Kirby attempting to work for the police and losing control of a firearm. However, it also cut little things here and there, potentially for time and rearranging of episodes - the latter of which was certainly done. --68.6.234.102 (talk) 23:22, 20 September 2017 (UTC)

Run end date

I see that there has been some edit conflicting on this in the infobox. When I accepted an edit yesterday, it was reverting the end date to April 15 2005 which is what it had been until an unexplained edit by a new user changed it to May 6 2006 back in December 21. Now it seems the latter is accepted and edit warred, but neither seem to be comprehensively cited? Wizzito, as you undid my acceptance, can you offer the necessary source for the May 6 date please so that this is easily verifiable? Bungle (talkcontribs) 07:27, 14 March 2022 (UTC)

I don't know. I'm just trying to prevent rapid date changing WP:KIDSTVDATES that goes around many pages, and this one seems to have a particular amount of unsourced date changing. wizzito | say hello! 19:38, 14 March 2022 (UTC)
The issue is, it doesn't seem clear what the correct date is. The currently accepted one, as I noted above, was inserted by a new editor (with barely any edits, even now), with no explanation and not sourced. I am not saying the other date is correct either, but this had stood beforehand. Part of me thinks have no date until the correct one can be verified. Bungle (talkcontribs) 19:52, 14 March 2022 (UTC)
Do what you wish, just really hard to verify dates for older TV programs, especially considering the KIDSTVDATES problem. (the episodes page is very much a mess of this, it was dates in the 2020s for some time until an IP went to fixing them) wizzito | say hello! 19:59, 14 March 2022 (UTC)
