[edit]- "Hugh Alexander records that ‘except for Turing, no-one made a bigger contribution to the success of Hut 8 than Shaun Wylie; he was astonishingly quick and resourceful and contributed to theory and practice in a number of different directions’." — Matt Crypto 14:41, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
Corrections
[edit]Shaun Wylie pointed out some errors in the article via his son, Malcom Wylie. I've amended the article accordingly, with the approach of just removing any assertion that he disaffirmed. Given that they were all simple matters of fact, I believe his word is entirely sufficient to cast doubt on the cited published sources. In particular,
1. He was born in South Parks Road, Oxford (rather than Headington). 2. He says there wasn't a formal "panel of 5 bombe controllers", although he did allocate bombe time. 3. He has no recollection of having won an unarmed combat competition at Bletchley (although he did get a bayonet in his leg during an exercise)!

Death
[edit]The death announcement being a Twitter post is unconventional for Wikipedia, but it was from the official Bletchley Park Twitter feed, so that strikes me as a pretty good source. I'm asking for more info - David Gerard (talk) 21:45, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
- Agreed, it seems highly unlikely to be a mistaken report. There will undoubtedly be obituaries published in the national news soon enough. — Matt Crypto 22:56, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
- And they have been and someone's added them. All good :-) - David Gerard (talk) 11:04, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
