Proposed merge of Treatment of women by the Taliban with Sex segregation in Afghanistan
[edit]Sex segregation is covering 2021 developments, but doesn't seem to be a reason that pre-2001 and post-2021 can't currently be covered together to provide both a current and historical context for our readers. Barkeep49 (talk) 15:18, 23 September 2021 (UTC)
- Agreed, I support the merge. —Danre98(talk^contribs) 21:48, 26 September 2021 (UTC)
- I support as well. It makes perfect sense. TootsieRollsAddict (talk) 00:48, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- @Barkeep49: These two articles are completely unrelated. In what sense do you think they should be merged? --Doostdar (talk) 19:47, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- In theory these could be separate topics. At the moment they're not. Until someone wants to build out content about historical sex segregation Afghanistan (pre-Taliban) our readers, and editor time, would be better served at Treatment of women by the Taliban. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 20:01, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- Now I added some information about pre-Taliban sex segregation and I'm going to extend the article. --Doostdar (talk) 06:57, 3 October 2021 (UTC)
- I don't see any pre-Taliban information @Doostdar. It seems more like a content fork than before. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 14:55, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Barkeep49: Sex_segregation_in_Afghanistan#Islamic_Republic_of_Afghanistan relates to period 2004-2021 in Afghanistan when Taliban did not have the power. --Doostdar (talk) 10:33, 5 October 2021 (UTC)

sex segregation significance
[edit]@TheTimesAreAChanging: You recently removed a sentence from the article. Your edit summary tells us that you think the sentence is not significant. The question is why? Doostdar (talk) 17:13, 14 March 2023 (UTC)
- Among other things, Wikipedia relies on secondary sources that directly relate to the topic of the article, preferably academic sources. The source that you provided about a single restaurant does not discuss the broader topic of "Sex segregation in Afghanistan". While this article could benefit from expansion, isolated anecdotes are not an ideal way to improve coverage.TheTimesAreAChanging (talk) 18:13, 14 March 2023 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, academic sources do not cover well the social situation in Afghanistan. Most of the content of the article is from news press. Most of the world's countries have male- and female-only prisons, bathrooms, saunas and toilets. A few countries mandate segregation nearly everywhere. It doesn't matter if it's a restaurant, a bakery line, subway wagon, school or everywhere else. Sex segregation can be applied everywhere. You cannot judge the situation of that of Afghanistan based on your own country. Doostdar (talk) 21:08, 18 March 2023 (UTC)
