The player is on the bench today - actually came on as a substitute - for a top Premier League club. It's unthinkable that he won't be shortly notable. Hence I've commented out the flag "{{Proposed deletion/dated ...".

Youth career

[edit]

I'm not following the rationale for leaving his "youth career" years open. He's 22 years old, and has played a fair number of games for the MUFC first team (and a few for Scotland). I guess he is playing a bit for the MUFC under-23 team, but that is basically a re-badged reserve team. I don't think that is sufficient cause to say that his youth career is still open. You can have much older players in a under-23 team as it is permitted to pick four overage players (including a goalie). I therefore don't think you can reasonably say that someone's youth career is still active just because they are playing in a under-23 team. Other factors need to be considered. Ahh, I wasn't aware of that fact about the overaged players. Therefore, yes, I can see where you're coming from regarding the how late can we leave it question. But still that leaves open the question of how early can we call it. Therefore I would say the year we should cap it would the year year where he is no longer young enough to play in the youth team or the year in which he makes his final appearance for the youth team - what ever is earlier. Position

[edit]

Scott has played as defensive midfielder, central midfielder as well as defender so can he be not also be called a defender. EDIFICO (talk) 07:39, 8 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think so. He's filled in at centre-back on the odd occasion, but calling him a defender would be like calling Gerard Pique a striker because Barcelona used to lump him up front when they were losing. – PeeJay 17:54, 8 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Unless your name is Steve Clarke... McTominay has started the last three Scotland games at right centre-back in a three. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 09:40, 9 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
And how's he played? The accounts I've heard have all made it sound like he's a fish out of water back there. – PeeJay 12:23, 9 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I am talking about his position at centre back, just like fernandinho at city he plays well and sometimes poor at central defence but he plays right. EDIFICO (talk) 20:20, 9 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Fernandinho, like Javier Mascherano under Guardiola before him, has been very regularly used as a centre-back at club level. McTominay is used as one at international level, but that makes up a very small fraction of his overall game time. McTominay is not a centre-back. – PeeJay 12:55, 11 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

= Scott McTominay is a SCOTTISH footballer, he plays for the Scottish National Team, the page should reflect this. "British footballer" while technically correct, is too vague and non specific. For example, Fikayo Tomori is listed as "English footballer" despite being born in Canada.
