Co-Composed

[edit]

"It is possible that the music was not co-composed by Ellington".... How in the world can that be published? It's also possible that Strayhorn did not co-compose it, and for that matter I suppose it's "possible" that it was composed by aliens living in the Bermuda Triangle. Anything is "possible". It's possible that somebody else wrote it and Strayhorn and Ellington stole the song at gunpoint. It's possible that Duke was inspired while eating a chimichanga. Maybe we should put that in? Anything is possible. This statement should either be changed, referenced, or deleted. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.154.72.42 (talk) 14:34, 6 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Billie Holiday

[edit]

I removed Billie Holiday from the list of people who've recorded this song, because she never did, and replaced her with Nancy Wilson.

Good job. I just assumed she did, given the popularity of the song and her prolific career. AdamBiswanger1 14:04, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup

[edit]

How does this article require cleanup? Hyacinth (talk) 00:21, 20 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I did not tag it, but I would say improper use of punctuation, no inline citations and a possible split as it seems two different songs are described. --Chris (クリス • フィッチュ) (talk) 08:33, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Go ahead and fix the punctuation.
What needs to be cited and why?
Why does it seem that two different songs are described?
Hyacinth (talk) 10:43, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
a version containing lyrics completely different than Mercer's... Different song, then, with the same name. --Chris (クリス • フィッチュ) (talk) 11:56, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Or, same song, different words. Hyacinth (talk) 17:56, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Entirely possible, since the lyrics were very much an afterthought. --jpgordon::==( o ) 18:04, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Richard Pryor bit

[edit]

Richard Pryor has a bit about a women named "Satin Doll" and he claims that she was the actual women in the song. Jason Quinn (talk) 02:22, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If this is true, then it is interesting and relevant for the article. So I am soliciting more comments. Jason Quinn (talk) 20:03, 27 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Here a link to Pryor's bit (Richard Pryor:THE MAFIA). At the beginning his explicitly mentions Satin Doll and her relavence to Duke Ellington. Jason Quinn (talk) 13:58, 29 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Restored that section, doubt it will last long though. 86.27.115.116 (talk) 15:09, 17 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
