[edit]Founding date and founders information needs correction.
In "Sex Information, Can I Help You" http://www.amazon.com/Sex-Information-May-Help-you/dp/0940208148/ co-founder Maggie Rubenstein writes in the forward that SFSI was founded in 1972 (not 1973) by her, Toni Ayers and Carolyn Smith (not Rubenstein, Tony [sic] Ayers, and Margo Rila).
Founding date is further substantiated by the org's incorporation papers, dated November 30, 1972. http://kepler.sos.ca.gov/cbs.aspx
FWIW, SFSI current and former board members privately cite November 1, 1972 as the officially-recognized founding date.
