Removal of overabundance of links
[edit]Do we really need to have this biography link to Chairman, Volunteer, Entertainer, Auctioneer, Author, PHD, chemistry, doctoral thesis, and a whole host of other 'common' items? No need to cross-reference them all... Bengaley 14:38, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
- Probably not, if it's an obvious term. Such things only really need to be linked if they are being specifically discussed or if the reader is likely to be unfamiliar with them. GreenReaper 16:47, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
- In that case, I'll let this stand for about three quarters of a day. If nothing else occurs when I get home from work at 0645 PST, I'll start delinking the common terms. Bengaley 18:03, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
- I've removed a bunch of links. Hopefully this solves the problem. GreenReaper (talk) 05:49, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

pronunciation
[edit]is it really kah-GAY? looks like Japanese, which I'd expect to be KAH-gay. kwami (talk) 02:03, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
- I'm not really qualified to comment on the correct pronunciation of Japanese - I was going by his home page, which specifies "two syllables and a hard g". Whether that means the stress is on the g . . . I'll ask. GreenReaper (talk) 03:31, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
- FWIW, I've only heard (and spoke) his name with "KA" stressed and "ge" like in japanese. Do his standup DVDs count as sources for wikipedia? I am sure he mentions that name somewhere. --Cubbi (talk) 05:04, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
- They would, although unfortunately they're not available for others to hear. There are however several YouTube videos. See this one at 0:56. Sounds somewhat like "KA-gee", although admittedly it's not being said by him. GreenReaper (talk) 10:10, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, the DVDs count, but if it's a Japanese pronunciation, we should note that. kwami (talk) 17:33, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
- All I hear is "You see the skunk, right?"
- At the point I mentioned the person holding the skunk says "thank you, Uncle Kage". GreenReaper (talk) 22:54, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
- Do you mean "KA" as in calm, or as in candy? gee as is French Guy? kwami (talk) 17:37, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
- Calm is closest, I would keep my tongue close to the bottom of my mouth while saying the Ka (with "candy" I would open my mouth wider). If you're a Star Trek fan, KA as in Khan. I'm afraid I was always terrible at French pronunciation, so I'm not sure. I would speak the Gee with the middle of my tongue elevated (not touching the floor or the roof of my mouth) and with the back of my throat tensed, if that helps. Here is a sample pronunciation. GreenReaper (talk) 22:54, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
- Okay, KAH-gee then. kwami (talk) 07:42, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

The bone marrow issue....
[edit]Its not that its doubted for being truthful, its that its doubted for being link to a personal blog site (Especially one such as livejournal). Unless listed as "according to him" or something similar noting the "hear-say-version"/"according to"/"as told" of what happened . But because I don't want to incur the wrath of the furs, hey I'm just following the rules. I believe that this can be used as a valid if not morbid source http://pellachronicle.com/obituaries/x351844183/Mark-Stevenson I found it during my search, and felt it only right to post this.
Sometimes you just have to double check things— Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.88.234.208 (talk) 05:08, 6 July 2011 (UTC)
- Obviously, anyone could claim to be a bone marrow donor and we would ordinarily have no way of confirming their story. WP:ABOUTSELF makes it clear that self-published sources cannot back a claim about third parties. However, in this case, the facts asserted by the blog are also in the referenced newspaper story. The blog was provided for the convenience of readers, because the newspaper story is not available online. I have a copy and would be glad to forward it to any interested editors. "Fandom Activities" section
[edit]This article starts out talking about how Mr. Conway is a respected Chemist, however the majority of the article is made up about a lot of really uninteresting facts about what he does in his spare time. Must we really know what media has interviewed him and what local television stations he appeared on? Or that he led an auction at a few events? Just think of how bloated Wikipedia would be if everyone who's ever led an event auction or was interviewed on local TV had a page about them. I think the entire "Fandom Activities" section needs to be truncated to a few facts and not feature every little thing the guy's done in his life. DoctorBorous (talk) 06:43, 4 August 2011 (UTC)
- To chemists, Dr. Conway's fandom activities may be of little note; to fans, it is likely his activities in Rapid Communications in Mass Spectrometry are of a trivial nature. Fortunately, as Wikipedia is not a paper encyclopedia, we have room for them both, and more besides. While it is appropriate to mention his career first, I'd argue that it is in the field of furry fandom that he has made the widely recognized contribution that justifies his presence here. However, it might be appropriate to move some or all of the media coverage relating primarily to Anthrocon to that article. GreenReaper (talk) 23:32, 4 August 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, being a furry is a lot more important than scientific research. Great perspective, Wikipedia! lOL173.61.216.86 (talk) 07:52, 25 November 2011 (UTC)
- "Being a furry" is very different to "running the largest furry convention in the world". GreenReaper (talk) 03:57, 27 November 2011 (UTC)
Nothing on him (hypocritically) being interviewed during the Midwest Fur Fest gassing last year? Or him being drunk at the time? What about Kage's chronic alcoholism? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.100.103.13 (talk) 15:10, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
