I was a fellow classmate of Sam Pottle's at the Yale School of Music and actually worked with him at least once in a gig at the Stony Brook (Long Island) Ballet.

Though I was not privy to his personal life during the time I knew him (I only heard he was gay after his death.), I can possibly fill in some facts about his life not contained in this stub. I will try to get the references later as I go along.

His father was Frederick A. Pottle who was a noted expert on James Boswell, the biographer of Dr. Samuel Johnson. (Was Sam named after Dr. Johnson?) Sam's full name was Samuel Heald Pottle:

Sam also worked, at one point, with Gypsy Rose Lee at the Cherry Lane Theater:

and he spoke of her with great admiration.

More later but I hope this information helps to amplify the page.Ed (talk) 13:46, 30 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
