Endorsements
[edit]Anyone want to weigh in on the appropriateness of listing election endorsements? JGriffithSV (talk) 17:51, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
Personal Life
[edit]I came across this article, including a read of its section on "Personal Life." It really must try harder than this. It's so hokey, its laughable. Hokum should not find its way into an article. This article is about the Mayor of the 10 largest city in the U.S., it could do a lot better. Ca.papavero (talk) 08:01, 13 May 2015 (UTC)
- Agree, homey/hokey tone was inappropriate, plus it was unreferenced so I just deleted the section. Brianhe (talk) 15:51, 21 September 2015 (UTC)
NPOV
[edit]This article seems to be largely biased towards Liccardo (for instance, I have already removed the latter part of the sentence sentence "Taking office at the age of 44, Licardo became one of the youngest mayors in the city’s modern history, but in his brief tenure, San Jose has already surged." The entire bulleted list seems extensively biased towards Liccardo. MB298 (talk) 01:55, 11 December 2015 (UTC)
- Update: Much of the disputed content seems to have been added by User:Lrdcmdtarley, who has a single contribution. MB298 (talk) 02:03, 11 December 2015 (UTC)
- Although it's been eight years since these previous comments were written, a great deal of the article still contains biased language. I think it needs to be noted that one news agency has reported that Sam Liccardo had his senior staff write and edit this article, according to city emails they acquired through a Freedom of Information Act request, as recently as 2019. Heritage
[edit]I just reverted an edit that labeled Liccardo as Hispanic/Latino. I based it on this article:
It clearly labels him as mostly Italian/Scottish. But in re-reading the article and the references to his lineage going back to Ortega, now I'm not so sure. I can't tell if I'm correct or if I'm confused by a badly-written article. Having someone else weigh in would be useful. JGriffithSV (talk) 21:37, 16 March 2018 (UTC)
- Liccardo's mother's maiden name is Aceves, a Mexican name, and the Aceves family immigrated from Mexico in the 1860's. In addition, Ortega (another ancestor of Hispanic lineage) was born in what was today Mexico, as were several generations of his ancestors, although ruled by Spain at the time. 2601:646:8E00:A090:7199:56B9:95EF:B417 (talk) 16:22, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
- Any sources for this info that we can put in the article? Elysdir (talk) 07:05, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
Article improvements
[edit]- WP:RSEDITORIAL: There are quite a lot of editorials and op-eds used as sources for this article, which aren't necessarily reliable sources.
- WP:OVERCITE: There are quite a lot of citations in general, and in many cases multiple articles on the same topic from different outlets.
- The article's sections are overly-nested. The "political career" heading can be removed and the city council and mayor sections can be elevated to the top level. The mayor section is a mess right now; I think it could be improved by having a short lede about the 2014 and 2018 elections and then subsections organized by topic.
- Some of the topics in the mayor section seem overly detailed and could probably be trimmed down.

2024 Congressional Election
[edit]We need a more neutral administrator type to review that entire section. I have a lot of problems with this content. First, it reads like a news article, trying to present the latest day-to-day information in an ongoing event, and Wikipedia isn't a news article. Second, the FEC complaint doesn't warrant mention. FEC complaints are a dime a dozen, and right now, it's simply an allegation (and one that's most definitely politically motivated). This whole section seems way too loaded, and way too long to boot.
