I deleted the Intergral Section. It is clearly written by someone from the program and has no other influence. The article misleads readers into thinking that it is the only program we have. It is a small program, with many students dropping from it and suspiciously more than half of them graduate with honors about three times the average graduate... Electricbassguy, ponder the meaning of an "honors program" and get back to me.

"ponder the meaning." I assume you are an integral major. All I am saying by graduating with honors means they have a 3.5 or above. I find it a bit off that more than half of integral majors last years had at least a cum laude at graduation, while no other majors had this. This is probably due to two factors: familiarity with the same class/same teachers leads to more collaborative work, and the grading without any tests is ultimately subjective and more likely to lead to bias, and also that those who stick with the integral through four years are dedicated to it and hard working. I also have had the experience of spending two hours with an integral major as he showed me an "amazing chart" for a project we did for another class which was really just a multiplication table of numbers I was doing in my head. And I am assuming you feel Integral is an honors society compared to the rest of St. Mary's because you guys read deeper into Seminar texts than the rest of us. That is understandable but debatable. Many majors have very hard work ,and it's unfair to assume Integral is above the rest. I also rewrote the article. feel free to expand or correct my mistakes.Electricbassguy 12:58, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

i assure you i'm not an Integral major nor affiliated with it in any way, however i'm more pointing out that you're suggesting edits based solely on your opinions, citing no actual facts. you may very well be right, though i don't think wikipedia is an appropriate mouthpiece.

Clarifications

I have 2 questions about the article that need clarification from someone who actually knows the information:

"The school also had the School of Extended Education for adults seeking to further their education and other non-traditional undergraduate students, but the program has recently been discontinued."

When is "recently"? It will have less & less meaning as time goes on. If someone knows the year it was discontinued (especially if they can provide a reference, that would be good.

"During the month of January students are encouraged to take a class that has nothing to do with their major. This differs from many colleges at which January Term or "Intersession" is optional."

"Encouraged" implies optional to me... but does it just mean that they are required to take SOMETHING and "encouraged" to take specifically something outside their major?. Jan term is required all 4 years. Students can take whatever class they want (they only take one for the entire month) but they are encouraged to take something outside of their major in order to broaden their horizons. Most of the Jan term classes fall in a professor's area of interest, something that, because of the school's small size, they wouldn't normally be able to teach a class on. The classes range from "Weapons of Mass Destruction" to "Hollywood Goes to high School". They only "standard" course that is offered during Jan term is calculus (at least it was when I went there-I graduated in 2004). Editing/Trimming needed

This SMC page has gotten woefully packed with useless information. I suggest most info under the clubs/orgs section be trimmed and constantly maintained as it looks like various groups on campus have used this as a place to talk excessively about their clubs. Also, the folklore section is completely unnecessary. Just my opinion. However, it looks more and more as if this page is about less providing concise info about SMC and more about people packing it with whatever random trivia they have. Quentin Reynolds is listed among the alumni. The short description describes him as the "former Chairman, CEO, Safeway Stores, Inc." The link, however, goes through to Quentin Reynolds the author.
