The head of research at WB through the 30's and 40's was Herman Lissauer. He was born in NYC, was a rabbi...it corresponds with the scarce information gleaned from Ruth Olay's interview (cited). However, I've not turned up direct reference to it.
Lissauer also founded the Communist "Liberal Forum" (see here: https://journals.ku.edu/index.php/amerstud/article/download/2247/2206 again is consistent with the biographical info Olay provides.
