Swedish Connection

[edit]

Maybe a mention of Princess Margaret of Connaught, a granddaughter of Queen Victoria, who if she lived to age of 68, would have been Queen of Sweden. Also Lady Louise Mountbatten, whose mother was a granddaughter of Queen Victoria, was Queen of Sweden. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.49.128.174 (talk) 17:25, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Odd page title - Prince Albert must be turning in his grave

[edit]

The page title rather implies that these are descendants of a union between Queen Victoria and King Christian IX. Surely in order to avoid ambiguity it should be "Royal descendants of Queen Victoria and of King Christian IX". Tonywalton Talk 22:08, 7 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Do we have to have the same people wikilinked every time they atre mentioned in the article? Penrithguy (talk) 19:40, 8 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

could be merged with Father-in-law_of_Europe

[edit]

The explanation of both nicknames "the grandmother of Europe" for Queen Victoria and "Father-in-law_of_Europe" for King Christian IX is very much encyclopedic material and it is because of those two nicknames that the information on this page is relevant.

However, I think that the info (all of it) on this page can be merged into Father-in-law_of_Europe as a new section.

can we include all of the reigning monarchs? (Lux, Liechtenstein, Monaco)

[edit]

Are the reigning 2 princes (and 1 grand duke) also related to the royal houses of Europe? if so, can we include them too in order to be complete?

I really do not think Andorra or Vatican has any place in this discussion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Trajanis (talkcontribs) 12:22, 10 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Henri of Luxemburg

[edit]

Shouldn't Henri, Grand-Duke of Luxemburg be mentioned here as well. He is the son of Josephine-Charlotte of Belgium, sister of Albert II and Boudain of Belgium, and thus a grandson of Astrid of Sweden. I know he's not a king but he is a european monarch who is a descendant of King Christian IX just like the others here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tvx1 (talkcontribs) 00:38, 26 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Family Tree

[edit]

The family tree on this page should be removed. It is too simplistic and flat to accurately depict the relations between the family members with any authority. It also doesn't have any references. The family tree on this page better depicts the family hierarchy and history of the Hohenzollerns and their descendents. Alliwalk (talk) 19:12, 6 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sure it's incomplete, but given that the title of the article is "Royal descendants of Queen Victoria and King Christian IX", why bring the Hohenzollern family tree into it? Favonian (talk) 20:19, 6 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Former monarchs

[edit]

Given that Christian IX's family tree section lists monarchs of abolished thrones such as Michael of Romania and Nicholas II, shouldn't we also add monarchs of abolished thrones for Queen Victoria's section. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:241:300:36C8:21E:52FF:FE82:CC43 (talk) 20:24, 15 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Romania in WW1

[edit]

This article says, "At the outbreak of the First World War their grandchildren occupied the thrones of Denmark, Greece, Norway, Germany, Romania"

I don't think that's right for Romania. Its king at the start of WW1 (mid 1914) was Carol I, who was not a grandchild of either Queen Victoria or King Christian IX. Queen Victoria's grandchild only occupied Romania's throne after Carol I's death in late 1914, which was before Romania joined the war, but after the war started. But I'll let someone else change that, because I'm not an expert. - 173.171.160.127 (talk) 06:13, 12 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Move discussion in progress

[edit]

There is a move discussion in progress on Talk:Christian IX of Denmark which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RMCD bot 23:00, 29 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Those Missing From The List Of Oldest Living Descendants

[edit]

I have found 4 individuals living at the age of at least 85 who are missing from the list.

1. Birgitta Bernadotte, Countess of Wisborg (b. 3 May 1933) -- daughter of Lennart Bernadotte

2. Hans Veit, Count of Toerring-Jettenbach (b. 11 January 1935) -- son of Princess Elizabeth of Greece and Denmark and brother of number 4 below

3. Prince Ludwig of Baden (b. 16 March 1937) -- son of Berthold, Margrave of Baden, brother of Maximilian, Margrave of Baden, who is on the living descendants list, and the only one of these 4 individuals to be descended from both King Christian and Queen Victoria

4. Countess Helene of Toerring-Jettenbach (b. 20 May 1937) -- daughter of Princess Elizabeth of Greece and Denmark and sister of number 2 above Zackylmfao (talk) 02:29, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Living Descendants Turning 85 In 2023

[edit]

I didn't see a "planning ahead" section on this thread, so I thought I would add a small list of individuals who would be turning 85 next year.

1. Countess Amélie of Castell-Castell (b. 25 May 1938) -- daughter of Princess Alexandrine-Louise of Denmark

2. Countess Madeleine Bernadotte (b. 8 October 1938) -- daughter of Prince Carl Bernadotte

3. Queen Sofía of Spain (b. 2 November 1938) -- only person of these three that is descended from both King Christian and Queen Victoria Zackylmfao (talk) 02:41, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Victoria and Christian – back together again

[edit]
The next generation

in the caption of the painting featured at the top of the article it says that it ... seems to be the only existing contemporary painting where Queen Victoria and King Christian IX are depicted together. WP:OR, strictly speaking, but I'll counter with some of my own: it's not correct. They were both at the wedding of Prince George and Princess Victoria Mary in 1893, witness the contemporary (give or take a year) painting on the right. Favonian (talk) 18:14, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the observation. I have removed the quoted caption from the lede image, partially because of the evidence you have provided. AndrewPeterT (talk) (contribs) 20:07, 30 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Prince Michael of Greece and Denmark

[edit]

I removed the coloring from Prince Michael to indicate he is not actually a member of a reigning royal house. Greece has not been a monarchy for half a century now. My edit was reverted because Denmark is a reigning house—but as far as I can tell, Michael is not considered part of the Danish royal family. He does not have succession rights to the Danish throne. So do we consider Michael to be a member of a reigning royal family or not? I don’t want to get into an edit war so I’m bringing this to the talk page. I disagree but am interested in hearing other views on this. Piratesswoop (talk) 01:51, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Person who reverted it here. His official title is "Prince Michael of Greece and Denmark. So I'd count him. 2601:346:8080:1E20:700C:215F:1054:6C2D (talk) 18:39, 20 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
He has since passed away, so it's a moot point now. 2601:249:9301:D570:F457:3035:4893:C706 (talk) 14:10, 28 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
