Fair use rationale for Image:Admiral Graf Spee Scuttled.jpg
[edit]Image:Admiral Graf Spee Scuttled.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Image copyright problem with Image:NZ MRV (NZDF).jpg
[edit]The image Image:NZ MRV (NZDF).jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
- That this article is linked to from the image description page.

First maritime combat
[edit]The assertion that "The first maritime combat activities in New Zealand began with the arrival of the Māori in waka in the twelfth century AD." is vague and unsourced. Not only is their no agreed point of arrival of Polynesian settlers (not even to the nearest century) there is no evidence that maritime combat took place at that time, or even for some centuries after (if there is such a source for this it needs to be cited). This sentence should either be removed or at the very least rewritten to reflect the vagueness of the dates involved. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 07:28, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
Protector class ?
[edit]So there are 2 "Protector class" vessels and another 4 completely different "Protector class" vessels. Now the normal concept of a "class", is for a group of identical or very similar vessels. Doesn't seem to be the case here.Eregli bob (talk) 05:53, 23 June 2012 (UTC)
They're two separate classes of vessel. As all 6 were acquired under project protector so carry the tag " protector class" but are referred to as either protector class ipv or protector class opv Warspite85 (talk) 10:21, 5 July 2018 (UTC)
- Project Protector was the MRV HMNZS Canterbury, OPV's HMNZS Wellington and Otago, and the IPV's HMNZS Rotoiti, Hawea, Pukaki and Taupo so they all carry the tag. The OPV's are mainly called "Protector" class OPV's the IPV's are also commonly known as "Lake Class IPV's" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake-class_patrol_vessel which is a carryover from the older vessels they replaced. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.94.38.207 (talk) 23:07, 13 August 2019 (UTC)
The IPV's are Lake Class as per RNZN website: http://www.navy.mil.nz/mtf/rotoiti/default.htm — Preceding unsigned comment added by 115.69.162.8 (talk) 08:35, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
Is there a lock on making minor changes ?
[edit]I added a new line showing number of personnel from NZDF 2014 report. Doesnt show in main article ?
Is there a lock on making updates or some extra review step before it shows online in main article ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.58.33.138 (talk) 23:38, 13 November 2015 (UTC)
New Zealand Navy badge
[edit]I copied this comment from m:Foundation_wiki_feedback#Regarding_Talk:Home:
WHY IS THE WIKIPEDA WEBPAGE ON THE ROYAL NEW ZEALAND NAVY (TE TAUA MOANA O AOTEAROA )STILL SHOWNING THE INCORRECT BADGE, I HAVE ALREADY TOLD YOU TO UPDATE IT ASAP,YOU CAN FIND THE CORRECT RNZN BADGE ON HTTP: //WWW.HUBERT-HERALD.NL/NEW ZEALAND AF.HTM ,THIS A INSULT NOT ONLY TO THE NAVY,BUT TO THE PEOPLE OF NEW ZEALAND,RIKI CAVANAGH WELLINGTON NZ
The listed link doesn't work as typed above. Here is the corrected link, and I believe this is the image they mean. NOTE: I have no idea what the correct badge is. I'm just blindly copying the comment for editors here to evaluate. Alsee (talk) 21:07, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
- The badge (recently added by Lord Comissar Britton on 20 Sep 15) does appear to be significantly different from that on the current RNZN page (see here [1]). Given the date on this image (1961) I'd assume it was an old badge, although I'm no expert on the Kiwi navy so I'm just guessing. Regardless, I've removed the image for now. Unsure if there is a version of the new badge available that complies with our policies so if someone else has one and wishes to add it I'll leave it up to them.
