Article needs expanded
[edit]It would be great if we could get some help expanding this article. It should be similar to other database articles like Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle Database, IBM DB2, Microsoft Access, etc. -charleca (talk) 18:09, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
UniData from Pick citation?
[edit]Can anyone find a reliable source that says UniData is a derivative of Pick? I found one for UniVerse, but cannot find one for UniData. -charleca (talk) 15:52, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
There was a court action that proved independent discovery. You can contact my favorite Multivalue historian, Dawn Wolthuis <dwolt@tincat-group.com> for details on this an much more. CharlesBarouch (talk) 06:13, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
- Do you have a link to this? If it wasn't derived from Pick, we need to correct the article and provide the proof. - charleca (talk) 12:45, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
Possible Guru
[edit]FWIW, Manny Neira provides a lot of information on U2 and Universe BASIC http://www.mannyneira.com/universe/index.html?black Possibly see if he would like to contribute? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nonnb (talk • contribs) 19:37, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
Expanded Records
[edit]I have expanded the one-paragraph subsection on Records to five or six paragraphs. Please review and tell me what to change. I'm particularly concerned about the last sentence.
I have references on all of this but I want to be sure the content is OK before I bother about refs. (BTW, is an out-of-print book a "reliable reference"?) I would also appreciate exactly which facts require references. RoyGoldsmith (talk) 11:48, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, an out-of-print book can be a reference. It just has to be reliable. - charleca (talk) 16:57, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
I think the Records section needs to be redone. It isn't entirely correct. - charleca (talk) 16:57, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
It's been almost 6 years since my last statement about the records, and it's still incorrect. I'll see what I can do. charleca (talk) 14:04, 19 February 2015 (UTC)
The way it currently sits, it almost reads like a tutorial...not quite what we want here... charleca (talk) 14:20, 19 February 2015 (UTC)
Hash Table
[edit]I don't know who wrote the section on the hashing algorithm. Pick/U2 does not use a hash table to store group locations. Each file has a pointer, the group of the record id is calculated on-the-fly, and then the group number thus found, is added to the file pointer to jump directly to the start of the group frame. There is no need for a table of the group locations at all. So I removed that remark.Wjhonson (talk) 20:10, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
Certification Section
[edit]The certification section needs redone. It's out-dated with IBM-specific information. Does anyone know the correct data for the Rocket Software certifications? charleca (talk) 13:46, 19 February 2015 (UTC)
- I found it on Rocket's website. Section has been updated charleca (talk) 13:55, 19 February 2015 (UTC)
