Rast being "in" 53edo

[edit]

The claim that rast is based on 53 equal divisions of the octave (53edo), made in the "comparison with Western scales" section and strongly implied in the lede ("It is in 53 Tone Equal Temperament"), is unsupported by reliable sources (RS) here and is likely incorrect, or at least misleading. While 53edo has long been used as a theoretical framework for understanding Turkish/Ottoman music, that framework was superimposed on an older and messier oral tradition. I'm no expert in this area, but without RS support I suggest that references to 53edo be removed – at least references that claim 53edo is definitive of rast). It may be easier to recast these claims in a way that suggests 53edo is one way of structuring or understanding the scale (in the parlance of microtonal theory, one says that 53edo supports the rast scale), but again some RS specific to the scale and tradition would be needed here. /ninly(talk) 14:24, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
