Song length
[edit]"The song is nearly three thousand words long and runs for 14:36."
Is that statement correct, I have it at running 5:03...no clue on the word count until a citation is made im deleting this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.49.26.26 (talk) 03:44, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
- Indeed it does run 14:36 (give or take a second). There are shorter versions as well the radio edit at 5:03 and a longer version at 7:37. But the full 12" club version is indeed 14:36.
- I don't think that's really a notable peice of info anyway PeterPartyOn 07:43, 15 April 2006 (UTC)
- It isn't? That's over 10 minutes! There aren't to many songs (even on 12" singles that run that long).
- I actually have it on vinyl next to me at its 14:37— Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.97.250.161 (talk) 06:56, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
- My version (the single version I would assume), is 7:37.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.32.55.221 (talk) 05:28, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
- The version I have is 14:36.7 minutes. It contains distinct verses in the following order: Wonder Mike, Big Bank Hank, Master Gee, Mike, Mike, Hank, Gee, Mike, Hank, and then Gee. – Quoth 03:20, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
Isn't the single also the longest single (by length) to hit the Billboard Top 40? I can't think of anything longer. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.205.226.82 (talk) 17:34, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
Video
[edit]Was there any video for Rapper's Delight? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.240.234.212 (talk) 18:22, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
- This video on YouTube seems to the closest thing to a music video as we understand it today (remember this was 1979 and MTV was at least four years away). - Thanks, Hoshie | 09:07, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
- MTV went on the air in 1981. There were music videos before MTV, though. — Walloon 08:05, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
Good Times is derived from Another One Bites The Dust?
[edit]This can't be correct. I believe Good Times is the earlier song. In fact, elsewhere in this Wikipedia, Another One Bites The Dust is listed as a 1980 release, and Good Times was released in 1979. I'm going to delete the erroneous part of this Rapper's Delight article. --Jlg9999989 14:01, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
- It's not correct. In fact, it's just the opposite. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Angrykeyboarder (talk • contribs) 22:02, 6 May 2007 (UTC).
The 1Xtra version
[edit]Who were the Uk rappers that did the 25th anniversary cover version for 1Xtra? I'm pretty sure Rodney P proclaims his involvement in the first verse, but apart from that...?--Macca7174 23:40, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
C'est Chic
[edit]I cannot, that's right CANNOT believe the matter of Chic is even in dispute. It is quite ocbviously Chic, I have heard that breakdown section hundreds if not thousands of times and I'd know it anywhere. I cannot believe you guys. The band said it was replayed to get out of the Atlantic Records portion of the payoff. Chic made much more money by removing the label from the deal (eliminate the middle man), like, DUH!! What gets me most bummed is that I'm trying to save the history of hip hop culture in the Wiki by starting the breakdown section entry and I'm in an editing dispute and they want to delete it so I come here to bolster my arguments and you all just let me down... sigh...--Tednor 21:20, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
Ok I am new to this thing...all I did was correct a misguided link...the linked page existed but did not appear as listed. Hope I did not break any protocol...though judging by the formal layout of even this page I am sure I have.
I'd say it's the Chic breakdown - HOWEVER, only the drum and bass lines comes from Good Times directly. Everything else is almost definitely rerecorded - try mixing it into Good Times and you'll see what I mean! 82.31.213.237 01:04, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
100 Greatest Rap Songs
[edit]- "It ranked #2 in the 100 Greatest Rap Songs, beaten by Common Sense's I Used to Love H.E.R."
Whose list is this? No indication. — Walloon 08:08, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
- The editor was speaking of About.com's list. I added the reference. PGT.Endurance 21:10, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Cleanup needed
[edit]I found a really detailed article about this song where the bass player Chip Shearin was interviewed, and it had some quotes from someone named Oliver Wang, although I'm not entirely clear on whether the writer got the information from the book or actually interviewed Wang. If he got it from Wang's book then that's the real source, although I wouldn't know how to find the details on that.
The article is kind of a mess currently since some information is in one section and some is in another. My guess is that the information from "Charlie Rock", which seems to dispute whether sampling was involved, should go in the same section as Chip Shearin's quotes. And I doubt "Charlie Rock" should be in quotes like that. Also, while I'm not disputing the content that was already in the article (and I did some work on that because it would repeat some of what I added), it had to come from somewhere but it doesn't have a reference.Vchimpanzee · talk · contributions · 18:13, 21 April 2010 (UTC)
What is this hop the hippie? These lyrics don't make no sense. Can somebody check it? 98.119.141.253 (talk) 07:46, 12 November 2012 (UTC)
