Uncertain places

[edit]
  • Arumpo — Is Arumpo a proper place? Google suggests only a mine, but is there a settlement there, or is this perhaps a misspelling of somewhere else completely?
  • Atlantis — Does he actually say Atlantis here?
    • I rather thought it was *Atlanta* - which is some place John Standing is a bit more likely to have traveled to.
      • I've always heard it as "Atlanta" as well. Is hearing it as "Atlantis" common enough to warrant *not* confirming it as "Atlanta"?
  • Mendhurst — Can't find much about this on Google; does he actually say Mendhurst here?
  • Prawle — No idea if this is the spelling; best I can do is three nearby and associated toponyms in Devon.
  • Rayburn — Is this what he says? This fairly unremarkable place seems unlikely and could be misheard.
  • Runcton — Is this what he says?
  • Shennington — Is this what he says?
  • Valmorel — Is this what he says? Could well be as it appears to be a ski resort of some kind.

there's a site that has most of the places on it http://www.hovington.com/lemonjelly/ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.130.121.72 (talkcontribs) 12:21, 16 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, yes, but that's a lyrics site, there are plenty of them about! The point is that whoever transcribed the lyrics may have made mistakes. You'll notice that the page you link to has all the places I've listed above as they are written. It also makes additional mistakes, like the non-existent "Rangu" for what I'm fairly sure is "Rangoon". Rhomboid Man 13:26, 16 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The hovington site was actually made with input from Nick of the Jelly and is probably correct in most instances - any other lyrics site that has the same place names would have been sourced from there. There was a long running thread on the Lemon Jelly forum where Nick made corrections for the benefit of the owner of the hovington site and promised to provide the unclear names at the end once the rest of it was correct (unfortunately the thread has now disappeared so I can only verify this statement by saying I recall it well). Either it still isn't completely correct or he's forgotten to provide the updates...

Apparently many of the place names were flashed up during a gig and "Rangu" was one of them - there is a Rangu in Estonia. San Francisco is definitely "San Frandisco". - Eke --194.131.108.2 14:27, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, okay, that makes things considerably more complicated then! If anyone who remembers this original thread can make corrections that would be very helpful. I saw "San Frandisco" on a lyrics site that had presumably copied from the hovington site and assumed it must have been a typo. Thanks for letting me know about this. Toronto is a city listed, yet Canada is not red on the map. Could we also have a zoomed-in map of England to show all the locations there?

Redirect

[edit]

If someone wants to redirect this to the album, please start an appropriate discussion rather than just blanking the whole article and redirecting without consensus. The Rambling Man (talk) 22:56, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

On the contrary. The only part of this article that contained any useful content got copied to the album article before this title was redirected. The remainder of the content was complete garbage - a slavish listing of the song's contents composed entirely of invited original research ("possibly" occurred a number of times). Once that is disregarded the article becomes a substub that is unlikely ever to grow further, and, since the content now exists in the album article, completely redundant. Additionally, there is no evidence that the song is sufficiently notable to even merit an article of its own. Accordingly I've returned it to being a redirect. It concerns me that you, as an administrator, would restore such extremely poor content. If you want to develop our coverage of the song further (without resorting to original research or indiscriminate lyric-listing) I would suggest that you do so on the album article until such time as it merits being broken out separately. — Scott talk 23:35, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well played. Happy new year. The Rambling Man (talk) 23:37, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
