Status of the wreck

[edit]

The article notes 'In the movie, the wreck appears as an intact vessel on the ocean floor, unlike in reality; however this information was not known at the time of filming' - is this accurate, surely we knew from survivors that the ship didn't sink in one piece? --94.192.156.163 (talk) 10:52, 9 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Survivor accounts disagreed on whether the ship broke up or not. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.98.70.12 (talk) 15:35, 10 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Since the film was released in 1976 nobody knew what the state of the titanic was until 1985 when its wreck was identified PlasmaticGrain (talk) 15:21, 3 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know to add this: Some events like ABM technology were to take place.

[edit]

The novel and film describe an attempt by the U.S. to develop technology to destroy nuclear ballistic missile in flight (anti-ballistic missile or ABM technology). This was actually going to take place in the Reagan Administration "Star Wars" program. After the release of the film, President Reagan aided the search team that had found the location of the Titanic in exchange for the search and analysis of a sunken U.S. Navy submarine in that same area. The public was to learn later on that the search for the Titanic was an opportunity for the U.S. to determine if the submarine had been attacked by a USSR ship without drawing attention to the search. You'd need sources that have discussed the real-world events associated with the Titanic in relation to this film. DonIago (talk) 03:16, 17 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I can put those together. However, they were after the release of the film. Starlighsky (talk) 03:38, 17 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
