the station's antisemitism
[edit]Many sources are reporting that this radio station fired a Jewish employee for refusing to support Hamas and the rape and mass murder of hundreds of people on October 7. This needs to be in the topic. This is actually the only reason why this page should be in wikipedia. Else, it should be deleted.

- See WP:CRIT. The only articles I can see are all emanating from the same source, a Sky News story based on a single employee's version of events. If it went to court or hit mainstream media, or the radio station's version of events was represented as well, it may be worth considering for inclusion.
- As for its notability, that is a separate issue. But I think that most radio stations are covered because they exist. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 07:36, 25 December 2024 (UTC)

Proposed text: Apart from broadcasting, like many community radio stations, it provides equipment, time in a recording studio, training and mentoring to a diverse group of broadcasters, including African Australians.
Reason: "ethnic" to mean "not-white" is 1950s speak. 12.75.41.49 (talk) 03:52, 26 December 2024 (UTC)
- But the term is not used to mean "not white" - it is just coincidental that the source is about African Australians. If you look at the articles Demographics of Australia or Australians, for instance, you will see that it is used for all types of ancestries.
- See also Australian Standard Classification of Cultural and Ethnic Groups.
- However it's a small change that I'm happy to make if other registered editors agree. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 07:33, 26 December 2024 (UTC)
- The source says "minorities", and the article says "ethnic", which is not a synonym. It wouldn't make any sense to keep the prose as is unless one believes whoever is the majority in this area has no ethnicity themselves. You could review Ethnicity to get a better understanding of the word and how it isn't related to the size of the population. Also, no special need for registered users to comment. They aren't super voters or anything like that. 12.75.41.45 (talk) 21:35, 26 December 2024 (UTC)
- I made the change. Thank you for noticing that archaic prose. Extra Jesus Hold The Satan!! (talk) 02:27, 27 December 2024 (UTC)
- Just FYI: I don't know where either of you live, but "ethnic" is not archaic nor a slur in Australia. In fact just tonight as I was watching TV news on SBS TV (the multicultural broadcaster), they referred to ethnic minorities in Syria. Furthermore, if you search on the term in the source used (published in 2017), like this, you will find 88 instances of its use, and the book description says "This book examines the relationships between ethnic and Indigenous minorities and the media in Australia". So in my view, a completely unnecessary change, unless there is evidence that the word is archaic or has other connotations in other parts of the world. - You seem to be confusing the phrase ethnic minority, which as you noted is common, with your use of phrase "ethnic broadcaster". What is an ethnic broadcaster? I live in Texas, and assume every human belongs to an ethnic group. "Ethnic" doesn't mean "in the minority" in English. If ethnic is a synonym for minority in Australia, remember this article should be comprehensible to any English speaker, or the words aren't doing their job. 12.75.41.45 (talk) 00:06, 28 December 2024 (UTC)
