Since this is a new page, it is not unexpected that is has several issues that need to be resolved:
- Additional citations for verification
- Evidence of notability
- Response to concern that it contains original research
- Links from related articles
The above issues seem to be resolved for now. Dtunkelang (talk) 18:11, 11 February 2017 (UTC)
Removals of content in October 2024
[edit]Several recent edits from @MrOllie removed content from this entry. The removals include the sections on tokenization and spelling correction. As a significant contributor to this page, I hesitate to revert these edits since that could appear to many as a conflict of interest -- especially since one of the removals was a link to my external content. Nonetheless, I am not persuaded that these removals improve the entry. I hope that having more people involved can help establish a consensus about what does and does not belong in this entry. - The citations did not relate to the ostensible topic of this article at all. The placement of the text was clearly WP:OR. If you want to propose citations that explain Tokenization and spelling correction in the context of this article I could support adding a sentence or two back, but this is not the place to (re)define generic processes used in any sort of text processing, certainly not based on generic definitions of the terms as cites. Linking to one's blog is also a pretty clear no-go per WP:EL. MrOllie (talk) 22:14, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
- I have obtained a copy of Query Understanding for Search Engines. As you can see from the table of contents, it has chapters aligned with the content that was on this entry. I will try to undo some of the damage from your removals using references to it. Again, I hope that getting other people involved will prevent this from being an edit war reflecting our personal differences about this entry. Dtunkelang (talk) 16:40, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
- Wikipedia has existing articles on Tokenization and Spell checking. It is not really helpful to repeat stuff that will be in those articles again here, especially when the existing sources were poor. Cleaning out such redundant material is not 'damage', try to remain civil. MrOllie (talk) 16:44, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
- I intended no incivility. To use your words, I can characterize your removals as "not really helpful." Moreover, I am concerned that, without a clear idea of your interpretation of Wikipedia policy, any changes I make will just lead to you and I engaging in an edit war, as I see as happened with you and others elsewhere. That leaves me frustrated and sad. I do hope you will prove me wrong and make constructive edits. Meanwhile, I hope that other people will join to make this less personal. Dtunkelang (talk) 21:03, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
- In the interest of adhering to these policies myself, I will simply link to WP:NPA and WP:CIVIL and not respond to your comment otherwise. MrOllie (talk) 21:10, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
- Likewise, here is a link to WP:WAR. Let's both strive to be civil and constructive. Dtunkelang (talk) 22:56, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
