Deletion or merge?

[edit]

The article in its current state does not provide anything meaningful that is not already present in Propaganda or History of propaganda. The only new section seems to be the one about propaganda in social media, which is focused just on North Korea (covered by Propaganda in North Korea, by the way) and ISIS, making it look cherry-picked and biases. It looks to me that relevant content in this article should be added to Propaganda, History of propaganda, Propaganda in North Korea and Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, the article itself could be deleted. --MarioGom (talk) 11:25, 3 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I can see the value in splitting out § Propaganda on social media to the current {{R to section}} Propaganda in social media. (The title of this section would be better as just "In social media" or "On social media" anyway, per MOS:NOBACKREF.) But since all propaganda must of necessity be propagated in some medium, the article title seems rather odd anyway and the article is just a WP:COATRACK for examples. Readers would be better served by separate articles concentrating on how a particular medium influences the style, delivery etc of the propaganda, rather than its message as such. (Pace Marshall McLuhan, the medium is not the message.) 94.21.78.76 (talk) 14:00, 24 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

who wrote this article? It reads like a poorly-edited freshman-level college essay. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.231.103.245 (talk) 15:45, 1 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

My thoughts on this article

[edit]

This article is so bad that an argument could be made for its deletion. It has huge, gaping omissions (there is no discussion of propaganda through radio or television), the "advertising" section is way too long, and most of the article seems to have been written by schoolchildren who needed to add a certain number of words to Wikipedia to complete a class project.

However, its treatment of propaganda through social media is the most thorough treatment on Wikipedia. There are enough sources out there that this can be turned into a distinct and valuable article that overlaps minimally with Propaganda and History of propaganda. I think the article can be salvaged, with significant restructuring. I'm working on that now and I invite others to join me. Philomathes2357 (talk) 19:35, 7 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
