The symbol "(φp)" is incorrect. "φ", standing for Pennsylvanian, should be represented by a symbol not available on Wikipedia, resembling the paragraph symbol "¶" but reversed to look like a "P". Given that the formation occurs prominently along the entire length of the Appalachians, particularly the valley and ridge province (second sentence), and further west in the subsurface, why does the first sentence imply it is "mapped" in only three states?
