Shapiro, Strax and Venet found that clinical breast exams (physical examination of the breast) and mammograms together resulted in a reduction of mortality yet clinical exams are ignored. This is a not unusual but serious oversight for publication here because the first sign of breast cancer is a palpable lump or lesion most frequently reported by the patient.
