Musician and cruciverbalist
[edit]One person or two? Both are definitely named exactly "Peter Laurence Gordon" from New York. See my last edit. The cruciverbalist is the editor of the New York Sun puzzle [1] and National Puzzlers' League member "Torpedo" since 1989 [2]. JJB 22:46, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
- Has to be two. The composer is my older brother, so I think I can be counted as authoritative on this issue. --jpgordon∇∆∇∆
- By the way -- Peter-the-big-brother wonders if you're sure about Peter-the-cruciverbalist's middle name. --jpgordon∇∆∇∆ 00:26, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
- No original research! Okay, just kidding. I'd expect a source to actually support the statement that they were the same person anyway, and that's obviously not going to happen. Bearcat (talk) 00:29, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
- Fair enough! Yes indeed the puzzler is also "Peter Laurence Gordon" (I verified it in the NPL print journal, see the anagram) and is in New York and of about the same age. Tell your brother we're sorry that "Laurence" was almost distinctive enough, but he might be interested in the anagram of his name also! If I ever disambiguate, the proper form should probably be Peter Gordon (editor), as he doesn't use "Laurence" much. JJB 19:19, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, Peter-the-composer recently started going with Laurence because there are several Peter-Gordon-the-musicians, including a hornist and a flautist. It sure would have been funny if indeed my brother was the Sun guy, since my dad was a crossword fanatic, I'm an on-and-off crossword fanatic, but Peter seems to have no interest in puzzles at all. --jpgordon∇∆∇∆ 19:24, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
- A propos of nothing, I don't suppose you'd know whether any record label is planning to rerelease Innocent on CD anytime soon? I love that album so much, but I've never been able to find it anywhere. But I digress. Bearcat (talk) 01:29, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
- Dunno. I'd love to see it on CD myself. --jpgordon∇∆∇∆ 23:19, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
- @Bearcat: -- Here it is! But I can't actually link to it. https: //petergordon.lnk.to/innocentandbrooklyn?fbclid=IwAR2z7uwmtuu9-1saSDLgym_AVDr_dGCY-4PqeO-4wgN_rZt63tnKQvjM6Xc --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 15:46, 4 November 2022 (UTC)

- Wow, I had utterly forgotten that this conversation even happened. But thanks anyway, I'll definitely be bookmarking that on my Spotify. Bearcat (talk) 17:19, 4 November 2022 (UTC)
Connected contributor
[edit]I stuck a connected contributor template for myself on this talk page. I've been careful (and will continue to be careful) to restrict myself to minor fixes; I'm really glad someone else has done the heavy lifting of the most recent massive update to the article. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 15:56, 16 July 2022 (UTC)
New source to draw from
[edit]Really good article about Peter Gordon in the New York Times. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/23/arts/music/peter-gordon-adjacent-records-downtown-minimalism.html --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 04:41, 24 April 2024 (UTC)
