Bournemouth penny Post
[edit]I have a Bournemouth penny post letter cover with a Penny Black adhered and stamped with a Maltese cross (Red) the information here identifies the term penny post and covers but these do not show an actural penny Black adhered to. The Question is did Penny posts in the day require an actural stamp to be adhered or just the term penny post/embossed version of a stamp? Barnesd555 (talk) 13:39, 13 January 2025 (UTC)
- Barnesd555: Generally penny posts were local delivery services before the issuance of the Penny Black postage stamp, because the penny black indicated a half-ounce letter had been paid the 1d postage fee, that was to be pre-paid. Any addition of a penny post marking in the UK was unnecessary after May 6 1840 when it was correctly pre-paid. ww2censor (talk) 15:30, 13 January 2025 (UTC)
