Onions?

Since when does a patty melt have onions? Thaabomb (talk) 17:20, 29 May 2014 (UTC)

Always, as far back as I can remember (and that's pretty far). Not just onions, but specifically sauteed onions. They're essential, although I always thought the same about the Swiss cheese and rye bread. Never heard of a patty melt served with cheddar, or on sourdough bread. Must be a regional thing. 167.206.122.66 (talk) 23:09, 11 December 2014 (UTC)

Old discussion

The entire second paragraph is pure conjecture and ought to be deleted, in my opinion. Some actual scholarship must exist about this delicious sandwich that could replace it.

What's with the Burger King plug/commercial mention? Is murdering a cartoon mascot of a burger place *really* Regicide ? MikeLieman (talk) 23:59, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Talking about this old March 2008 version I guess. Indeed, a bit strange it was.... :) Dreadstar 15:26, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

Two thin patties of meat

Recently many burger stands offering a patty melt on their menu serve it with only one burger patty. The traditional patty melt always had two patties placed a slightly off center over each other. The off center placement of the two patties filled what would otherwise have been the empty ends of the oval shapped slices of the rye bread. —Preceding unsigned comment added by ARK,Esq.
