Mar4d, doesn't the name kind of imply that it also includes deployments inside Pakistan? Is that in the scope of this article? --lTopGunl (talk) 15:21, 10 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

My understanding is that the term military deployment refers to deputation of military outside the country. That's how it also seems to work for United States military deployments and Deployments of the French military for example. Thoughts? Mar4d (talk) 15:54, 10 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that seems to be the trend here but deployment is a generic word; see Pakistan Armed Forces#Current deployments. The parent article has two subsection under deployments. Should we include them all or just stick to overseas? --lTopGunl (talk) 15:58, 10 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
A bit strange how that term is used in that article. Deployment is normally used to refer to overseas presence, which this article is meant to be about. You can't really be "deployed" inside your own country, it doesn't make sense. At least not from a military perspective to me. Mar4d (talk) 16:04, 10 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Deployment only means to move or place strategically as per [1]. So wikipedia's trend is not standard. We can make our own, infact, Military deployment is one of the worst wikipedia articles. --lTopGunl (talk) 16:11, 10 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps :) But I like the idea of keeping this one limited to just overseas military presence. That was the idea behind this article. We got plenty of other articles on Wiki to talk about domestic deployment operations already :) Mar4d (talk) 16:15, 10 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Let's clearly define that scope then so that it doesn't get coatracked. --lTopGunl (talk) 16:17, 10 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, so the idea is to focus on deployments of Pakistan military, past and present, that were outside Pakistan. This includes active Pakistani contingents and battalions that were stationed in countries, Pakistani military personnel serving abroad, and peacekeeping troops. Check out the article lead, which defines the scope (you can improve it if it doesn't look clear) and let me know what you think. Mar4d (talk) 16:21, 10 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
As the lead says, Pakistan was at one point the largest military manpower exporter in the world. I've been thinking about making that the DYK hook of this article :p Mar4d (talk) 16:23, 10 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Lol.. many options ;) --lTopGunl (talk) 16:24, 10 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Third world

[edit]

Just wondering at the irony that this is so POV-y but I guess it has become an actual word now. --lTopGunl (talk) 16:38, 10 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah... that's how the source worded it. I don't have a problem with using alternative terms such as developing world eg. if it sounds POV-ish. Mar4d (talk) 16:53, 10 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

DYK

[edit]

Mar4d, is it large enough for the DYK? If it is, more expansions can come in slowly. --lTopGunl (talk) 07:55, 11 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Good to go I reckon. Got the main content and history covered, rest of the expansions will be made gradually. Mar4d (talk) 14:21, 14 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yup, do the honours of submitting the first hook for DYK. I'll dig out alternative hooks. --lTopGunl (talk) 14:23, 14 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Done. See Template:Did you know nominations/Pakistan Armed Forces deployments. Mar4d (talk) 14:35, 14 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
