Confusion about de-grading

[edit]

Can a recipient who has been conferred with a higher grade (Commander) be again conferred with a lower grade (Chevalier) order? This is the query at the reference desk. Jay (talk) 07:35, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the move request was: no consensus. Evenly divided, with contradictory claims about what the English-language common name is. Extraordinary Writ (talk) 08:19, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose, the French title is also often used in English and overwhelmingly the COMMONNAME, so I'd rather keep it there despite UE.--Ortizesp (talk) 13:01, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. The French title is the overwhelmingly common name. We do not translate everything into English just because "this is English language Wikipedia". -- Necrothesp (talk) 11:57, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: This list article for this subject is at List of members of the Order of Arts and Letters. I have no preference as to outcome myself, but it might be best if both articles used the same org name. BusterD (talk) 12:14, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nom moved the list right before they made the technical move request. Note to closer: if this RM is closed as not moved or no consensus, the list should be moved back. Rotideypoc41352 (talk · contribs) 18:45, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Gender

[edit]

Are the French grade names inflected for gender? If so, the female forms should be in the article. Error (talk) 13:08, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
