Taxonomy: For all marine species, Project Gastropods uses the taxonomy in the online database WoRMS. When starting a new article, do not use sources of taxonomic information that predate the 2017 revision for all gastropod groups ("Revised Classification, Nomenclator and Typification of Gastropod and Monoplacophoran Families" by Philippe Bouchet & Jean-Pierre Rocroi, Bernhard Hausdorf, Andrzej Kaim, Yasunori Kano, Alexander Nützel, Pavel Parkhaev, Michael Schrödl and Ellen E. Strong in Malacologia, 2017, 61(1–2): 1–526.) (can be dowloaded at Researchgate.net), substituting the previous classification of 2005 Taxonomy of the Gastropoda (Bouchet & Rocroi, 2005). If you need help with any aspect of an article, please leave a note at the Project talk page.
Neogastropoda is recognized, accepted, as an Order in both WoRMS [1] and the ITIS Report [2], both checked May 18, 2013. So to be current as of at least May, 2013, Neogastropoda should be presented as a taxonomic order, not left as an unranked clade. The automatic taxobox is obsolete. The Taxonomy of the Gastropoda (Bouchet & Rocroi, 2005) recognizes the Neogastropoda as a clade. Even if WoRMS still classifies the Neogastropoda as an unassigned order, when you look in WoRMS in the section classification under Littorinimorpha, you can read : Tree of Life (based on Ponder & Lindberg, 1997 and on Strong, 2003) may be more realistic in using only Neogastropoda as a clade. Here WoRMS contradicts itself. Therefore we better stick to the Taxonomy of the Gastropoda (Bouchet & Rocroi, 2005). --JoJan (talk) 19:15, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
