Section on transition from mining

[edit]

Mt. Pleasant began transitioning from mining a while back according to historicmtpleasanttn.com which says according to a paragraph,” after the boom of the phosphate mining ended and later in years when it was no longer necessary for people to drive through Main Street but rather utilize highways, it was no longer the thriving community it once was. Much effort has been given to the city over the years to restore downtown buildings, preserve its history and reinvent itself in other ways.” I apologize if the quotation is a bit long. Datausa.io goes into detail on the now current economy with the site stating the largest industries as retail trade with 239 people, healthcare and social assistance with 326 people, and manufacturing with 297 people. Also of note to the transition is the current downtown project plans on mtpleasant-tn.gov used in current renovations with https://www.visitmountpleasanttn.com mentioning expansion of the square, underground utilities, and new sidewalks.
