Correction...
[edit]According to IMDb, Michael Carbonaro was born in 1982, not 1976: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1298546/ I made the necessary corrections.50.168.176.243 (talk) 23:56, 16 January 2015 (UTC)
- Wikipedia does not allow the wikia IMDb to be used as a reference source. The article gives circa 1976 with journalistic citation. Please do not change this personal-life data about a living person without reliable-source citation, as that is a violation of Wikipedia policy on biographies of living people. --Tenebrae (talk) 01:20, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
- Oh, right. I forgot Wikipedia is anti-fact. My mistake. Well, I'm pro-fact, so you might want to ban me now because I will NOT follow rules that are wrong. You have been warned. Furthermore, I read your article. Don't be intellectually dishonest. Nowhere in that article does it even purport to mention a date of birth. If you don't accept IMDb as evidence, then just delete his date of birth altogether. Don't just deliberately make up bullshit. That's vandalism and it could potentially be libel.50.168.176.243 (talk) 03:44, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
- The New York Times article agrees with the Newsday article, saying he was 24 in 2000. http://www.nytimes.com/2000/08/13/nyregion/thriller-set-on-island-and-made-by-islanders.html. IMDb has user-generated content that is not editorially verified. --Tenebrae (talk) 04:11, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
- First of all, just putting a number after a name doesn't really mean anything. Neither article makes a reference to his birthdate. Second, even if it did claim he was 24 in 2000, depending on the exact day he was born, he wasn't necessarily born in 1976. Your articles made no claims as to his birthdate. You're violating the very policy you're accusing me of violating. But, this comes as no surprise from the self-admitted propaganda machine, Wikipedia. You want to deliberately misrepresent his age on an article, fine. YOU deal with the potential consequences for that. I don't know what you have against this guy, but I'm just trying to set the record straight here.50.168.176.243 (talk) 04:17, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
- That's why the article says "circa." You might want to look up the meaning of the word.
- And despite your contentions, no, I am in no way violating WP:BLP. Read the policy carefully. Adding uncited personal-life claims and removing reliable-source citations is violating the policy.--Tenebrae (talk) 04:20, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
- You just contradicted yourself. You added uncited claims on multiple occasions. It's not just IMDb. It's nearly every source in existence: http://www.bing.com/search?q=michael+carbonaro+birthdate&go=Submit+Query&qs=ds&form=QBLH Of course, you're going to cherry pick the one source that fits your agenda. Because you're Wikipedia and that's what you do.50.168.176.243 (talk) 04:25, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
- No, I did not contradict myself. You might want to look up the definition of that word, too. The New York Times and Newsday are two of the largest and most reputable newspapers in the country. Each has won multiple Pulitzer Prizes. They are highly reliable sources. "FamousBirthdays.com" is hardly comparable. --Tenebrae (talk) 04:31, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) I don't see any sources on the first page of hits that meet WP:RS guideline and have a year. No matter how many non-reliable sources say something, that doesn't equal even one reliable source when we have one (which we do). Those are the rules wikipedia has established for itself...you need to find a specific reliable source that meets that requirement ("web search results"/hit-counting is likewise not an allowable way to meet your WP:BURDEN). Tenebrae, I think {{Birth based on age as of date}} would give a more correct infobox. DMacks (talk) 04:33, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
- Except there are two sources, and I'm not sure how to do the template for that. --Tenebrae (talk) 04:36, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
- D'oh...with different publication-dates. Oh well. Maybe better to leave out the hard-coded age so it doesn't become stale. DMacks (talk) 04:38, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
- Oh, that's why I used the template {{bya}} in the infobox. --Tenebrae (talk) 04:45, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
- You do what you're gonna do. I'm done. I hope you're either right or Carbonaro doesn't really care whether you are.50.168.176.243 (talk) 04:42, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

I've put page protection on so IPs cannot edit for two weeks. I've also closed the ANI thread. I saw no legal threats.
The IP is combative and has a mistaken belief that IMDb or FamousBirthdays.com are somehow reliable. See WP:USERGENERATED and WP:QUESTIONABLE Bgwhite (talk) 08:29, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
- I really do not want to step too deeply into this mess, but from my PoV the birthday of April 28, 1982 seems legitimate and valid. If somehow this is still a point of contention, I’m fine with reversion. Do not care to get deeply involved with this. But honestly I think the quality of the seemingly random IP edits here are making this issue a mountain out of a molehill. Again. I don’t care about this issue so deeply to get involved any further. I have done my best and done my most and that’s how I’ll let it stand and stay. If you need to revert—and “you” means someone more invested in editing this page than me—please feel free to revert. I’m done. --SpyMagician (talk) 05:37, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
- Reverting, as previous consensus was that 1982 is not valid and multiple reliable sources were provided for 1976. If we are going to change it I think we need multiple editors to agree that the change is appropriate at this point. DonIago (talk) 12:41, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
- Fair enough to revert this @DonIago, but you reverted it back to the broken edits made by 97.118.16.85 who was attempting to change the date on their own. Fixing by reverting to a clean version. --SpyMagician (talk) 14:04, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
- Sorry about that! Thanks for the catch! DonIago (talk) 14:07, 30 June 2015 (UTC)

- We have two sources supporting 1976 and this has been a contentious issue in the past. I'm unsure of the reliability of the source you provided as well, though if other editors find it acceptable, I'd support that. Can you provide other, perhaps more clearly reliable, sources supporting your desired change? Thanks! DonIago (talk) 18:52, 12 March 2015 (UTC)
- Just to mention, the two sources currently in the article are The New York Times and Carbonaro's own hometown newspaper, Newsday. --Tenebrae (talk) 20:48, 12 March 2015 (UTC)

Birth date should be changed to April 28, 1982 Spin467 (talk) 22:25, 2 April 2015 (UTC)
- Not done: See the sections above this for previous discussions of his birthdate. The sources in the article (his hometown newspaper and the New York Times) disagree. If you can provide reliable sources that disagree with the article, please do so and this can be discussed further. --ElHef (Meep?) 22:33, 2 April 2015 (UTC)

To whom it may concern:
According to Google, and Celebritynetworth123.com, the magician, Michael Carbonaro was born April 28, 1982 in New York City. The information from those sources appears very accurate. I "highly" you modify his birth information on the Michael Carbonaro's Wikipedia page, A.S.A.P.
Thank you Kindly!

birthdate with source
[edit]Hi,
Here is a source from FamilySearch for a Michael Carbonaro who reside in Oakdale, New York, and they gave a birthdate as April 28, 1976 -> [1]. Just want to help. --Danielvis08 (talk) 11:46, 17 March 2017 (UTC)
- As always, Danielvis08, your birth-record research is impeccable! Adding now. --Tenebrae (talk) 20:58, 19 March 2017 (UTC)
Edit-warring redlink editor
[edit]I have invited User:Thewiz1998, who has been edit-warring with two editors here in order to violate WP:BLP and WP:ELNO, to please discuss his issues here.--Tenebrae (talk) 22:52, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
- I have found his real birthday. He revealed it on his show the Carbonaro Effect. I am not trying to violate anything. I just want to put his real birthday — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thewiz1998 (talk • contribs) 23:20, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
- Celebrities fudge their frequently. And apparently — it's hard to say for sure — he and his friends for quite some time have been attempting to vandalize Wikipedia for his benefit. In addition to everything else, a New York Times article in 2000 gave his age as 24. What explanation would you have for that? --Tenebrae (talk) 22:28, 28 March 2017 (UTC)
- I think in this circumstance we can't consider changing the date listed without multiple reliable sources providing the "real" birth day...I believe that's the criterion we used for the existing one. Though if there are multiple RSes in favor of the change, perhaps it's most appropriate to have a section discussing the contradiction. DonIago (talk) 05:07, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
- After all these years and all this edit warring, I'm still confused as to how Wikipedia, an allegedly impartial and neutral source, can make a judgement call on which birthday is the real one. That violates the alleged neutrality. If you don't know which is which, and you don't, you need to err on the side of caution.68.53.153.55 (talk) 18:47, 2 August 2018 (UTC)

Born and raised in Oakdale, New York, on Long Island, the younger of two sons of an electrician father and a nurse mother, he attended Connetquot High School in Bohemia, New York.[3] Carbonaro attended Tannen's Magic Camp as a child. [1] He began performing magic professionally while growing up, earning his college tuition while still in his teens.[3] He holds a bachelor's degree in drama from NYU Tisch School of the Arts.[3] Ben.johnson1812 (talk) 10:15, 16 May 2019 (UTC)

Magician of the Year Award
[edit]I saw a YouTube video of Michael Carbonaro claiming to have won the Magician of the Year Award from the Academy of Magical Arts. I looked it up, he's not listed anywhere on their site. On this page, at the bottom, there is a carousel (I don't know if that's what wikipedia calls it, that's what I call it) for Magician of the Year, and there's 2 entries in there that do not match the Academy of Magical Arts website: 2014 (Michael Carbonaro, should be "Ahmed Adel (Dexter)") and 2015 (Dynamo, should be "Karim Bibs"). Here's the page of the Academy of Magical Arts' Award page (Magic Castle Hall of Fame). The wikipedia page for the Academy of Magical Arts' Awards has the correct entries (which match the external website), it's just the carousel that doesn't match. Did somebody vandalize the carousel to support Michael Carbonaro's claim on a YouTube video? --tlhIngan 03:00, 6 June 2020 (UTC)
- I have since found this and this, 2 newsletter issues from the Magic Castle that confirm that Dynamo was the actual winner of Magician of the Year for 2015, even though their own website says otherwise. I haven't found the newsletters that talk about the 2014 winner.tlhIngan 04:32, 7 June 2020 (UTC)

Pictures
[edit]There must be something wrong with the pictures. In the photo, which is supposed to be from 2014, he looks about 20, 25 at the most. In the photo, which is supposed to be from 2013, a year earlier, he looks about 50. Please correct. 2001:16B8:AFE6:8E00:2437:6931:AE26:9529 (talk) 14:57, 24 August 2024 (UTC)
